Guest Posted November 1, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Had my first try at long exposures with the M10 this morning...... absolute nightmare. I tried taking a 4 minute exposure just before sun up and low and behold it was nearly 10 minutes before I could take the next picture.........I will stick with using the M10 as a walk about camera, and for anything else I will use something else. Very frustrating Neil

Very frustrating Neil Eh! Four minute exposure + 4 Minute NR That means it was only four minutes form the end of your exposure until you could take the next one. Where did 10 minutes come from Neil? You can't start complain about the 10 minute clock (actually 4+4+8) from the beginning of the exposure you set for 4 minutes. Having said that the mandatory LENR pisses me off when standing about in the cold at some ridiculous time of night.
Photon42 Posted November 1, 2018 Share #9 Posted November 1, 2018 The Hassys don't have the mandatory LENR. Seems like a proper case for the X1D.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist I think I got that.......but why don't others use it, is it something exclusive to Leica that Leica have a patient for it, as I don't see my other images shot on different brands of camera having noise in there images shot at over 1 second? tobey bilek Posted November 2, 2018 Share #17 Posted November 2, 2018 I wonder if they could just patent an off switch. NR best done with edge masks so the image stays sharp.

Neil It searches for hot pixels caused by the long exposure and removes them. It works by making an equivalent dark frame exposure, the extra 4 minutes, which finds the pixels that heat up. Of course different camera manufacturers use different methods for when and how it is applied, and it is an ever changing design philosophy with articles posted a year ago being quickly superseded by better software and sensors. In some older Nikon and Canon cameras the noise reduction actually made the image worse with very long exposures, but not so now, so it is important to keep an eye on when an article was posted. I've used my M10 with eight minute exposures and the image is perfect.
