lecycliste Posted October 30, 2018 Share #1  Posted October 30, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m just about ready to throw my shiny 2 week old SF 60 out the window, and the SF C1 with it. TTL with that #$&@€£ flash on the SL DOES NOT WORK like TTL with a 430EX I or 430EX III-RT on a Canon EOS 5D mk IV.  I cannot get TTL flash exposure compensation to do anything in dim light, within 5 feet or less. Sometimes it doesn’t work at 5-16 feet in dim light outdoors either - it blasts the €#$& out of the scene, even set to -3EV. I’ve tried setting compensation on the SL, on the flash, and on both. It seems to be worse at high ISO. Yes I have set the minimum shutter speed in flash mode to 1/2 second so I can drag the shutter at lower ISO. Sometimes it looks like it kinda works, then other times it doesn’t. Manual 1/256 of full power can work slightly better, but even that seems to nuke exposures. Does this only work at ISO 25, just with Kodachrome II? Has anyone written a book on how to use the SF 60 flash in TTL mode, or have enough experience with it to share a tutorial on how to get it working consistently?
Advertisement Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Hi lecycliste, Take a look here SF 60 - how the $*#&* does TTL work with it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fotonutzz Posted October 30, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted October 30, 2018 Initially, I thought it's because the SF60 was too powerful for close range shots. When I used my SF64 on my SL and aimed at my shoes 3ft away, the flash wasn't blown out at all granted that I have to set the ISO below 400. Are you using it on the S, SL or M bodies? Ingo Posted October 30, 2018 Share #3  Posted October 30, 2018 I gave up using SL with TTL on SF40, SF60 or SF64. BTW. The Q works very good with SF40. If I know that I have to use the flash a lot during a job I take a Lumix G9 which gives me the results I need. Leica is far away from Canon etc. when it comes to flash.
tpf1952 Posted October 30, 2018 Share #4  Posted October 30, 2018 I’m with Ingo. I gave up on using on-camera Leica brand flash not only with the SL but the M-10. For Leica, reliable TTL flash is simply not a commitment. For such work I now use another brand of camera, simply use TTL flash that works reliably.
sillbeers15 Posted October 30, 2018 Share #5  Posted October 30, 2018 I never had such negative experiences with SF60s and MG10 with TTL as well as Manual. I always set my camera exposure and ISO to manual and work my way with TTL or manual. With TTL, the flash exposure can fluctuate a little and that is normal with any flash until I set it to manual. i combine one MG10 with two SF60s and the results were consistent. ymc226 Posted October 30, 2018 Share #6  Posted October 30, 2018 Using the SL and 2 SF 60s off camera via TTL works fine. I also use the SL in manual.
