Sreed Posted October 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just picked up a used 55-135 from a camera shop and I’m wondering if its behavior is normal or if there is something wrong with it. The first issue is that when I have my CL in AFC focus mode and half press the shutter, the lens makes noise continuously until I release the button. I know that it’s making micro focus adjustments and that the behavior makes sense but the noise is quite audible and unlike my 11-23 and 18-55. The second issue is that as I zoom the lens and rotate the barrel, there seems to be some clicking going on inside the lens. There is a bit of noise with that as well. The odd thing is that the clicking and noise is only present if the camera is on. Would someone mind confirming if these are abnormal behaviors? Advertisement Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Hi Sreed, Take a look here 55-135 Focus noise. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ayewing Posted October 12, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2018 (edited) I had not noticed this but then I am rather deaf and use hearing aids. Out of interest I tried using continuous focus with my ear (or rather the microphone of my hearing aid) close to the lens barrel and sure enough I can hear the clicking you describe. The same is true when zooming. It would appear that your observations are normal behavior for the 55-135mm lens. Perhaps one of our forum members with normal hearing can confirm this. By the way, welcome to the forum. Edited October 12, 2018 by ayewing added comment

tritentrue Posted October 13, 2018 Share #4 Posted October 13, 2018 My copy of the 55-135mm has no audible focus jitters when used with AF-C. And it makes no noise when I zoom it. Previously I had a pre-owned copy of this lens and I sometimes heard both clicks and focus motor noise when I zoomed it. The TL2 I was using it on turned out to be defective, so I speculated the issues might be caused by the camera . Leica Asia Pacific claimed they found no issue with the lens, but I ditched it along with the camera anyway.

bencychin Posted October 14, 2018 Share #6 Posted October 14, 2018 I did not recall having such experience of noise or jitters. Out of curiosity, I just tried on my TL 55-135 on CL again, and it is quiet and smooth in both AF S and AF C modes. Very convenient in size/weight and pretty sharp with good IQ.
