Enbee Posted October 11, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello - I am unable to copy the firmware update onto the SD card on my Mac. I have followed the instructions: 1. Insert SD card in SL 2. Format card 3. Remove card from SL - insert into Mac 4. Copy the update into SD card - I am unable to write anything onto the card. (I am also unable to reformat the card also using Disk Utility). Have tried doing this with two separate cards. Has anyone in the past faced a similar issue has a work around this? Thanks,
Advertisement Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Hi Enbee, Take a look here Unable to do Firmware Update. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Clactonian Posted October 11, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2018 Are you downloading the update onto your desktop first (silly question I know)? Using a Mac, and having done so, I simply open two Finder windows, one for the SD card and one for the update folder and drag the update file across to the root directory of the card. Oh, and have you checked your card is not locked by the tab on the side?
LocalHero1953 Posted October 11, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2018 Have you accidentally locked the sd card? The little slider on the side? Slide it towards the contacts
Enbee Posted October 11, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted October 11, 2018 Thank You - I did check that the sd card it wasn't locked. I think it's something to do with computer that I am using. I finally tried another computer and I was able to update file on the sd card and update the firmware on the SL.

dkCambridgeshire Posted February 23, 2022 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I've tried to update my SL 601 firmware from 3.6 to 3.7 ... I have previously updated all prior SL 601 firmware updates successfully ... and also for other Leica cameras. I found the 3.7 download on the Leica Camera AG website ... downloaded it ... dragged it to my Desktop ... Formatted an SD card (actually tried several freshly formatted unlocked SD cards ) and inserted the card to a card reader and plugged it into my iMac (running BIG SUR 11.6.4) ... Then dragged the download from the desktop to the Leica SL card shown in the sidebar ... whence an audible confirmation is heard indicating the firmware is downloaded to the SD card ... But when the card is inserted into the camera and 'start update' is accessed, the camera monitor shows message 'No firmware on SD card found' ... I've used two fully charged batteries ... there is only one SD card in the camera ... I have no idea why 3.7 cannot be loaded to the camera ... Also tried downloading firmware 3.7 on my Macbook Pro but again when the SD is inserted in the camera the same message appears. Also tried loading the SD card into the iMac's SD card slot instead of using the card reader ... but same 'No firmware on SD card' found'message appears I have considered trying to download 3.8 but it does not appear in the options on Leica Camera AG downloads. Any assistance would be appreciated Thank you dunk 601__37_.lfu.download.zip ... this is the download as it appears on my desktop ... I have unzipped it but when accessed the following message appears: “601__37_.lfu.download 3” cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. ... Is there any way around this anomaly?? ... I have tried enabling the download in System Preferences ... but after dragging the file to the SD card the same No firmware on SD card' message appears I'm now going to start all over again after deleting the downloads shown in my desktop!! dkCambridgeshire Posted February 24, 2022 Share #8 Posted February 24, 2022 (edited) Should I try and find SL601 Firmware 3.8 and try updating same before 3.7 ... i.e 'miss out' 3.7? There are too many 'English' SL601 FW 3.7 downloads on the Leica Camera AG 'firmware section' ... a confusing mess! After downloading 3.7 to the download folder. when trying to open the download this message appears: "There is no application set to open the document “601__37_.lfu”. " ??? AND "This app is currently not available in your country or region" Never known such a frustrating firmware download procedure ! Giving up and will try again in the morning dunk Edited February 24, 2022 by dkCambridgeshire

Not sure why you’re trying to open this on your computer. You need to copy it to the SD card and then update on the camera. Here’s the direct link to the v3.8 FW image: https://www.reddotforum.com/Firmware_files/601__38_.lfu Details here: https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2021/09/new-firmware-for-leica-sl2-sl2-s-sl-601-sl-lenses/ Edited February 24, 2022 by beewee

Previous attempts to load 3.7 via RedDotForum also failed ... no idea why. TYVM dunk
