I have never used routines or filters to view the Forum. Not before nor now.

I just access the whole thing from the front page  [my bolding]

I’m also not sure what knowing the number of views really brings to the party, to be honest but they are still shown when not using filters or summary listings b

@andybarton - Unless I'm doing something drastically wrong, which is entirely possible given the complexity of this BBS software, accessing the forum from the front page seems cumbersome, at lest from the point of view that there is no longer a button on each thread for going to the latest unread post — which means that, in practical terms, for long threads, one has to read from the end of a thread to try to find where one left off last time. Using the form in this way would seem to me to reduce participation because one has to spend more time doing this — and a reader is likely to do this only for the few topics in which he or she has an overwhelming interest. For me, that means that using routines or filters is essential for anyone interested in regular forum participation.

As for the view count, I beg to differ, because I believe it can be an important and useful element in using LUF. One example, say you've started a thread and have only a few responses but see that there are a lot a views: you might get the thread moving by making a post to that effect. I've done that, and have seen other such "reminder posts" that get a thread moving with wider participation. The reverse is also true: if you see that your thread has little viewership then the game ain't worth the candle and you just give up on it. That was the case of my thread on the German TV series Babylon Berlin, which got so few views that it wasn't worth pursuing further, despite the fact that I thought that this series was one of the best thing on TV and also an important contribution to cinema. In either case, low or high view count can be useful to know — but having to go and track down the view count for one's thread in the basic forum view is too cumbersome to do regularly.

I know the title of this thread, but feel it is useful to highlight the difficulties and frustrations in using LUF — and a certain that @LUF Admin would want to know this, considering that the new forum software is still in the shakedown stage, and critical adjustments and simple solutions such as issuing a Quick Guide, as well as suggestions I made earlier as well ones others have made, can lead to assuring greater and more effective user participation.

That's not the case.

Click on the black circle on the left of the title of the thread, and you will be taken to the last unread post in that thread. I clicked on the Stamford thread before taking this screenshot and I know it works. If you hover over the black button, it will confirm the function.

My most recent upload posted at its submitted size.  Assuming this is indicative of a permanent fix to the issue, thank you for your responsiveness.

Double-checking "My Attachments" shows that the files are either still being compressed or, possibly, that the size of the thumbnail rather than the full-size image is being displayed.

thanks- but that does not offer the same functionality.

previously- i would go to a thread (usually a long thread-- and there was an option to go to the 1st unread post. . . no need to scroll through several pages of read posts...

the link you provided-- takes me to the last posted item... thereby skipping over several unread posts.....

In the activity results, if you click on the dot or star before the tread title then you will go to the first unread message in the tread.

When I receive a PM, both my mailbox and the notification “bell” have a red check. After reading my PM, the red “check” on mailbox disappears but the one the notification is still there until I read the message again form the “bell”!.... Very confusing!

I set the notification to not receive any, it is still warning me for a PM. I believe just the “check” on mailbox is enough, and less confusing.

Just my 2cts. :)
