New to the SL, having traded in my CL for it. Love it, but one thing is getting me, and I don't know if I'm missing something.

 

Auto ISO doesn't work on adapted lenses. Is this really the case? I'm Auto ISO 50 with every adapted R or M lens.

i only use M lenses on my SL..though i rarely use autoISO, it does work fine when i switch it to auto...perhaps its something to do with the adapter ?

That happens under 2 conditions:

 

1. The lens isn't 6-bit coded without a lens profile assigned in camera (or you aren't using the Leica adapter)

2. Auto ISO minimum shutter speed set up to 1/F

 

You need to assign a lens profile or set up the minimum shutter to anything other than 1/F.

OK, thanks. Sort of annoyed that this is the case: seems arbitrary and unnecessary. My M10 doesn't behave this way, and I can't see why any camera that can meter would require this limitation.

When I had the SL, I used AutoISO quite a lot, with adapted R and M lenses using the Leica adapters. I have the CL now and it seems to work exactly the same way, minus the lack of a settable minimum ISO value in the AutoISO range. AutoISO worked fine on the SL just as it does on the

 

So I'm not sure what the problem you're encountering is.

 

- What adapter are you using?

- Are you setting a lens profile?

- What AutoISO settings are you using? (both upper/lower limits and maximum exposure time)

 

One difference between the SL/CL behavior and the behavior of my other cameras is that with AutoISO on these two cameras, whatever you've set for maximum exposure time will not be extended light levels require an exposure beyond that time. Most of my other cameras have supported the notion of extended time when the ISO range limits are reached. On the SL and CL, the only way to defeat the maximum exposure time is to exit AutoISO and use a fixed ISO setting.

I have 1/f set for shutter, 6400 max ISO. I have a Novoflex R to L adapter, and the Leica M to L adapter. I haven't been setting lens profiles. Behavior is the same with both adapters.

 

If I put an unknown lens on my M10, with auto shutter and auto ISO, with 1/f and 2500 max ISO set in the settings, it adjusts the ISO freely to whatever is needed, below 2500. Seems like all the camera needs to do is meter to be able to make an ISO decision, which the SL can do with an unknown lens.

I have 6 bit coded lenses.  I have minimum shutter speed set to 1/F. Auto ISO works fine.
