firoze Posted October 1, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted October 1, 2018 (edited) Very nice. Thank you Stuart. But I am not satisfied with the resolution of this image. The original file is exquisitely detailed and sharp, but I am unable to reduce the file size to under 500kb without loosing a lot of sharpness and detail. I have seen images posted on this forum, including yours that have excellent sharpness and detail, so I know it can be done. For this file I set jpeg quality to 85% and then reduced the dimensions of the image to get it to just under 500kb. Any advice on how I may achieve better quality? Ps: after posting this I found a complete of threads on this topic so I will read those and try again. Edited October 1, 2018 by firoze

Thank you on both counts! Glad to know the images look good on your screen. Maybe it is just my iPad Pro 12.9” that’s showing them in a poor light. Perhaps some other member would be kind enough to comment on how they look on their screens?
abrewer Posted October 2, 2018 Share #7 Posted October 2, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking on a ten year old netbook 1024 x 600, and the images seem a little soft. Did you use Unsharp Mask (USM)? If you did not, give it a go with amount 100%, radius 1, threshold 6 and see if that does the trick. Regardless of how tack sharp you get it at home, it will never be completely the same here--it's just a reality of posting on the Forum

I know photos posted online will never look as good at the original, but my issue it that others on this forum are able to post sharp and detailed photos (including those who are not premium members), while I am unable to do so. Mind you, I am posting from a iPad Pro, so either I need to find a better way to do so, or give up attempting to do so, and just post from the Mac. StS Posted October 3, 2018 Share #9 Posted October 3, 2018 As a side note, the inscription below the city crest on the second picture is: Libertatem quam peperere maiores digne studeat servare posteritas. Translating with my rusty remaining Latin "The freedom, won by the ancestors, shall be preserved by the descendants in dignity". Stefan

abrewer Posted October 16, 2018 Share #13 Posted October 16, 2018 These last couple of pictures are definitely crisper, but unfortunately almost to the point of being over-sharpened. I would back off the "amount" by about half and try it again. Sharpening, and USM, are matters of taste and judgment of the photographer but there is a very narrow band where the image looks sharp without being overly so. Hard to explain in words, like pornography one of those "I know it when I see it" concepts.

Thank you Allan, I myself thought the sharpening might be too much, but it is difficult to judge until you actually post the photo. I’ll tone down the sharpening in future posts. Thanks for your feedback.

war Posted October 17, 2018 Share #17 Posted October 17, 2018 These are architectural photos. I can't imagine why one would want to see less detail. These are remarkable photos.
