No, it doesn´t how do you come to this conclusion?

Well if you have to raise the exposure significantly of a significant part of the pic in one case and raise it less in a less significant part of the pic in another, I would say that the effective aperture of the lenses might be the reverse of what their f numbers might suggest.

Pete, I think that both lenses give rise to in-camera correction, although I use Lightroom to process my pics and don't generate the JPEGs in-camera.  (But you still corrections using Lightroom, even if they are easier to switch off for M lenses.). So I do think that apples are indeed apples in this case.

jrp, I had understood you to mean that the Summilux-S's pictures are sharper and more colourful than the Noctilux's straight out of the camera but please correct me if I've misunderstood.

Yes it's likely that the photographer would process the pictures from both lenses in PS, Lightroom, CaptureOne or his pp of choice but by the time the pictures have been processed it's irrelevant comparing them because pp software packages provide the potential for a skilled user to change any picture so that it's almost indistinguishable from another.  Hence the SL is designed to correct aberrations in the Summilux-S's pictures in-camera, for example, geometric distortion, vignetting, colour balance, saturation, sharpness et al so that the Summilux-S's pictures carry the 'signature' look that Leica desires before further post-processing is done.  It's not clear what corrections are done in-camera because Leica hasn't released this information but it was always intended by Leica that the pictures should be cleaned up in-camera first.

I often forget to select my Noctilux in the SL's menu when I attach it and the pictures, to my eye, look no different from when I do remember to select it so the SL is making few, if any, corrections to the Noctilux's pictures, which is why I don't think it's comparing apples with apples.

Pete.

Dunno. I just find wide open high ISO pictures from the 50mm SL better in sharpness and colour than the noctilux, despite the the extra light that the noctilux should provide, for example. I don’t think that extra post processing would make up the difference.

I just updated my M10 to the latest version and its great...........the Noctilux 0.95 likes it too especially with this new firmware the focusing at 0.95 is a breeze

How does the new firmware affect the focussing? Did they update the focus peaking?

I use the 1.4x magnifier and love it!

Ok, but what did they change with the EVF in the new firmware?

If they did that would be excellent but somehow I doubt anything can be done with firmware. After all the EVF is limited by its resolution. The speed does not concern me much, just the clarity.

That´s what I thought, but NW67 sounds like they improved something.

That’s very nice for you, Neil.  Has the autofocus improved too?

John

AF is about the same but I do like the new shutter priority where it automatically selects the Apature for you ........very useful when birding with the M10 and Noctilux.

Can you finally describe what has improved? Has it less delay now or is the peaking more precise?

With the 90mm AOP it definitely works great as well......I agree with you about the delays in Peking.
