Exactly. Old Leitz grease it is then.

Fine. I am simply fascinated by organic products that have not been successfully synthesized. Besides Blackfish oil/wax there is synthetic gelatin when in the exclusively film days it should have been valuable. Never happened.

I think you should call Don. He picks up the line himself and doesn’t mind discussing his work. He, and his dad before him, have tons of experience, so maybe he has some details. If not, he’ll quickly acknowledge.

Any plug for DAG is good with me. Thanks for the good conversation, Jeff.

15 years with noctilux f1 and now till two days I have added the new f0,95 . I have done few pictures to see the differences of the bokeh . you will find on my  https://www.flickr.com/photos/109454835@N04/?

To buy the f0,95 I have sell the 50 apo as during two years I haven't done photos for which and for my taste  it is worth . My idea was  to have both noctilux for a period  to be able to decide which one keep .... I think will be difficult to decide !!

Thank you! I would love to see more of these side by side comparisons of the same subjects.

you are the guys who just bought the 24Lux!

noctilux is great, some say EVF would help when focusing @ wide opened is that true?

Yes, I did! :)

I only think about buying a magnifier. Will test how I like it too, but it works pretty good with just the rangefinder for me with the f1.

SMAL, here are two similar photos taken (not at the same day though) with the 0.95 and 1.0 Noctiluxes. Nothing special, just for fun to show what they look like. Similar development in Lightroom regarding sharpness and contrast. Finished in Efex the same way.

Soooo, little Update. I’ll be in the Leica Store of Porto tomorrow and touch the f0.95!

Two weeks later I’ll be in Lisbon and the 50/1 will get a CLA.

So if I end up buying the f0.95 tomorrow, I’ll definitely keep both for a little period and decide afterwards if one has to go and which I keep or if I simply keep both. It’s all also a little depending on how the focus of the 50/1 is after the maintenance. Next update will be tomorrow evening!

Am I alone in thinking that any wide open lens is hopeless for landscape photography? Depth of field is important in order to capture the detail.

Charle Waite, recognised as one of the great landscape photographers, used closed apertures ... even f/22.

My belief is that wide open is best for studio work such as individual portraits.

I think both of the shots taken with Noctilux lenses would never get past the dustbin in a photo competition. Sorry to be blunt, but neither is worthy of any respect either in terms of composition or having artistic merit. So much is out of focus that I'd rather use a cheaper lens and spend the money saved on a holiday ... with an APO Summicron.

There is an obsession with wide-open that I fail to understand. Maybe it is a modern thing?

Having used cameras since the 1950s I find it all rather bizarre.
