Yermek Posted September 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Friends, I found really strange that apeture ring on Summilux 35 1.4 ASPH moves really fast and without FIX on apeture. Does it really have to work like this or it's not? Thanks for your replies. BR, Yermek

wattsy Posted September 27, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2018 Dear Friends, I found really strange that apeture ring on Summilux 35 1.4 ASPH moves really fast and without FIX on apeture. Does it really have to work like this or it's not? It doesn't have to be so but certainly it seems to be a common complaint about this lens.
Ecar Posted September 27, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2018 Not just this lens. Nearly-clickless aperture rings seem to be the new manufacturing standard... The good news is that it's an easy fix and Leica will do it for you.
Gregm61 Posted September 27, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2018 (edited) The 35mm f1.4 Summilux FLE I bought brand new earlier this year has well-defined aperture click values, both whole and half stops. It's a very easy turning control ring, but the stops detents are there. There's no missing them. As much as I shake it, I hear none of the rattling so many talk/"rattle on" about either. It's quite the exquisite piece of engineering. At $4,995 (the price I paid before the last increase) it needs to be everything they make it out to be, LOL... The Summilux FLE aperture ring works very much like, though not as even more silky as the aperture ring on the 75mm f2 APO Summicron I use right alongside it. graphlex Posted September 27, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2018 Same with my recently-produced copy of the FLE.
low325 Posted September 29, 2018 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2018 (edited) For what it’s worth, I had my 50APO change from the “luxurious” aperture clocks to the normal lock clicks. I found those luxury clicks to be easily bumped off. Leica did it for me, they changed two washers and it was back in my hands in days. I’m happier now but it I miss the quieter click. Woooah is me, the Leica user once said. Edited September 29, 2018 by low325

budjames Posted September 30, 2018 Share #8 Posted September 30, 2018 I purchased a new Summilux 35 ASPH a few months ago. The aperture ring has nice click stops and is not loose. The focusing is buttery smooth, bet than my Summicrom 35 ASPH purchased a year ago. epand56 Posted October 2, 2018 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2018 Mine work correctly. It's not FLE ( I sold the FLE I didn't like it too much) it's a n Asph. Is the lens that stands on my camera most of the time. A magic lens.
otto.f Posted October 2, 2018 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2018 (edited) Dear Friends, I found really strange that apeture ring on Summilux 35 1.4 ASPH moves really fast and without FIX on apeture. Does it really have to work like this or it's not? Thanks for your replies. BR, Yermek Oh that's great for video, if it is silent also. Btw, there are several old Leitz lenses that have smooth moving aperture-rings, for instance my Summitar 50 from 1946. Older LF Schneider Kreuznach lenses have it too. I would like it with all my lenses actually. Edited October 2, 2018 by otto.f
