leonpro Posted July 15, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted July 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm trying to protect the bottom plate of the Digilux 3 camera so I can just lay it down on any surface without getting scratched too easily. I can't imagine how much it would cost to replace these when the time comes. Â Old SLR film cameras used to be sold with matching protectors on the bottom that hold be screwing into the tripod slot. I don't see Leica accesories or third-party makes for it for this camera. Â Any suggestions how I can protect the bottom without fear of having it scratched? spylaw4 Posted July 15, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted July 15, 2007 What about a strip of insulating tape?
farnz Posted July 15, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted July 15, 2007 Or how about those self-adhesive rubber or felt pads for stopping sound systems from scratching polished surfaces? Â Pete.
roydonian Posted July 15, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted July 15, 2007 How about buying some LCD screen protectors and trimming them to fit? You'd need a several pieces to cover the entire base, but it would be near-invisible apart from the joins. Â I've got two patches of LCD protector fitted above the carrying eyelets of my Digilux 2. stunsworth Posted July 15, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted July 15, 2007 Why worry about replacing it when it gets scratched? No matter how carefully you treat a camera it will eventually pick up some marks and scratches if used regularly. The best thing IMHO is not to worry about them, but accept them as a fact of life. earleygallery Posted July 15, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted July 15, 2007 I think the idea of the plastic base plate covers you mention was primarily to protect the motor wind contacts on film SLR's. Â I'm with Steve on this one, but if its a worry for you buy an ERC (if they make one for it?) or use tape etc as suggested.

leonpro Posted July 16, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted July 16, 2007 Thank you everyone for great suggestions. Yes, yes...I should let the Leica it age with me. But then another voice in my head says to protect it. Â Perhaps camera tape/gaffer tape is a good and cheap solution.
