likealot Posted September 24, 2018 Share #42 Â Posted September 24, 2018 Do I recall it menitoned on this forum some time ago that the company said it had aspirations to enter the mobile phone market entirely on its own account eventually? Â I think it is a Leica mobile phone. Â I sure hope not. It would be a catastrophy for them.
Mistral75 Posted September 24, 2018 Share #43 Â Posted September 24, 2018 A Panasonic GX style camera with a Leica M mount, and Sigma produced (lower cost +/- automation of features) M mount lenses. Â The two Panasonic cameras with Leica L mount (one with 24 MP and the other one with 48 MP) will be named Panasonic S, not Panasonic G.

Prices of German glass will increase dramatically... I will become a rich man and tell my wife I was doing right after all by buying M glass.
wattsy Posted September 24, 2018 Share #45  Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) Perhaps Leica is to become a fully publicly quoted company on the German Stock exchange. (I guesss theoretically it may be so already, but the shares are I think in the hands of only one or two companies? Get your shares now.   It was a publicly quoted company from the mid 1990s until relatively recently when Dr Kaufmann's investment company bought most of the stock and took it back into private ownership. There was (unsurprisingly) a special edition M6 – "Ein Stück Leica" – to commemorate the original stock market listing. helged Posted September 24, 2018 Share #52 Â Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) Yes: L+P+S is true - and with this trio, also more lenses, including specialised lenses (wide, macro, tele, t&s,...), IBIS, no LENR, improved AF, etc. etc. can/will be offered. Good. Good. Good. Edited September 24, 2018 by helged
earleygallery Posted September 24, 2018 Share #53  Posted September 24, 2018 There’s been rumours of a Panasonic ‘SL’ so it could be news of a new partnership product but that’s not really unprecedented is it.  It must surely be something more about Leica.  It could be the phone. They’ve stated that’s an intention.  What else? Something following on from the watches perhaps?  A new range of Leica fountain pens?
wda Posted September 24, 2018 Share #54 Â Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) No-one has mentioned the next user report by Jonathan Slack. Mistral75 Posted September 24, 2018 Share #55  Posted September 24, 2018 There’s been rumours of a Panasonic ‘SL’ so it could be news of a new partnership product but that’s not really unprecedented is it.  (...)  I think Leica voluntarily opening one of their mounts to third parties is unprecedented.  The LTM/L39 mount was put into the public domain by the Allies after WWII, like many German intellectual property rights, and the M mount went into the public domain once the patents protecting it had lapsed.  The Leica CL was manufactured by Minolta (so did some R mount lenses) but that was a contracting agreement. The Minolta CLE was introduced in 1980, more than 25 years after the Leica M, therefore the patents protecting the M mount should have lapsed by then.
earleygallery Posted September 24, 2018 Share #56  Posted September 24, 2018 Yes but announcing another manufacturers product seems unlikely to be something to make a big fuss over.  Unless there’s some new PanaLeica ‘economy’ SL camera too.

helged Posted September 24, 2018 Share #60  Posted September 24, 2018 Yes but announcing another manufacturers product seems unlikely to be something to make a big fuss over.  Unless there’s some new PanaLeica ‘economy’ SL camera too. Panasonic is rumored to come with two FF bodies (24 and 48 mp) in L-mount, scheduled for March 2019, and there are rumors about Sigma body/ies as well. All good, as far as I can understand.  And unprecedented.
