Louis Champan Posted September 14, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can't seem to get my hood screwed on so it lines up properly, square to the face of the camera, without really forcing it. I'm afraid I'm going to strip the thread by screwing it in that far. Any thoughts? Thanks Louie

HighlandK Posted September 14, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2018 I can't seem to get my hood screwed on so it lines up properly, square to the face of the camera, without really forcing it. I'm afraid I'm going to strip the thread by screwing it in that far. Any thoughts? Thanks Louie A not uncommon reluctance and there are threads on this (as well as on the lens hood!). You are dealing with a bit of precision engineering and you cannot overtighten it. If it is turning freely up to almost the final position just keep turning until it reaches a positive stop. One tried and tested solution is to rub a little nose gease onto the threads before fitting the hood.
Leica Guy Posted September 14, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2018 This has been addressed on the forum many times. A little oil from the side of your nose typically reduces the resistance and allows turning the hood to the stop. Honest. It’s the tried and true solution. stuny Posted September 14, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2018 I initially had the same issue, fearful of overtightening, but I followed the advice of forum members and tightened it more. It's now perfectly aligned.
war Posted September 14, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2018 So far so good, but I've never tried getting it off!
stuny Posted September 14, 2018 Share #6 Posted September 14, 2018 I was able to remove it to put on a thin B&W made UV filter, and then add the hood back. It sill aligned correctly.
Louis Champan Posted September 14, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted September 14, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks very much for answering my question, I was just afraid of damaging the threads if I over tightened it. As for this being address many times in other threads, maybe it's just me but spending 30 minutes looking through pass threads to find a specific subject, seems quicker to just ask the question again. I'm lazy I guess.
bags27 Posted September 14, 2018 Share #8 Posted September 14, 2018 I take mine off frequently to put on other filters. It gets easier over time...and you get more confident.
Louis Champan Posted September 15, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted September 15, 2018 Thanks, the suggestion of a touch of nose oil did the trick.
