fotografr Posted September 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Goldfinch lands on a sunflower, hangs upside down while pecking out and devouring the seeds, then sits atop the cleaned out remains. He will spread the sunflowers all around the garden, which is okay with us. D114 Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted September 13, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2018 Very nice. In the last few weeks we've seen a pair gold finches enjoying a large patch of sunflowers, as have squirrels and LBJs (the non-fanatical "Birder" term for largely unidentifiable Little Brown Jobs)
fotografr Posted September 13, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted September 13, 2018 Thanks, Stuart. We havea similar term here, LBBs, for little brown birds. Usually they are sparrows and run in large flocks that drive other birds away. They've managed to chase our beautiful Baltimore Orioles completely out of the area. stuny Posted September 14, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2018 I forgot to mention we named our pair of goldfinches, Auric and Golda. They do not respond to those names, though.
