Is the image above rendered unusually large or is it just my browser rendering it that way?

I see this in other threads, portrait format images seem huge in comparison to landscape format images.

JMF's image directly above mine looks normal.

In pixel size, the longest edge can be a maximum of 2480px, regardless of orientation, but in practice the width is scaled to the browser window, which is unfortunate for images in portrait mode (try a 16:9 image in portrait mode!).

JMF's images are linked from Flickr and are probably scaled differently, to a more appropriate size.

I'm sure it didn't used to do this, for example, post #1847 in this thread was posted the same way with longest edge between 2000 & 2480.
