Over at the 75 Noctilux-M images thread I posted some pictures I took with that lens from a fashion show I happened to run into. I went back today with the Apo 90 Summicron-SL. Seven out of the following eight pictures are crops as 90 mm still didn't get me close enough to the models. But DOF was shallow enough to get only one eye in focus. :)

Focus is on the eye closest to the camera. Image about 36 percent cropped.

Image about 48 percent cropped. Let's face it, with AF face detect, focusing on the eye closest to the camera of a moving subject is a hit and miss endeavor. Here, focus is on the eye farther from the camera, but I think it still works.

Image about 42 percent cropped. Focus is on the eye closest to the camera. That 'one eye in focus, the other not' thing in portraits is the reason I kept the 90 and returned the Apo 75 Summicron-SL I had borrowed. That and less distortion for headshots, plus, I have another 75.

Yes, I dig it. I can't help it. Whenever I see two eyes in focus in a portrait where the person isn't looking straight into the camera I always think what's wrong with the picture. I know that aesthetically quite the opposite should be the case, that we actually want to see the whole face in focus.

And here the full size image. These SL primes will be incredible on the SL2.

+1. And I just wonder whether /when Leica is going to release S-lenses of the same caliber...

They're pretty incredible on the SL.

I'm reminded of that line from Ab Fab: "Patsy, the magazine called - they need a decision on the cover!"

Patsy: "Oh, what's to decide? It's the same every month - a model, in makeup, with a blank look on her face."

The models and the backstage dressers and make-up artists who got them runway-ready did a terrific job. It was hard work with seven shows over two days (I was there for only a couple). Clothes and make-up were changed and put on in a small tent. Sometimes the stress showed in the models' faces.

I don't think we would do her justice without a full body crop (about 26 percent). The outfit and the colors are gorgeous. Leica SL skin tones to go with them perfect.
