Advertisement Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Hi albertknappmd, Take a look here My Leica M10s and Leica lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Vroon Posted August 27, 2018 Share #22 Posted August 27, 2018 I think I can only afford one lens. An M10 plus one decent lens, still £9k. Or I could get a type 240 and save enough to do a 4 week road trip. Hmmmmmm

Or I could get a type 240 and save enough to do a 4 week road trip. Hmmmmmm If there's one thing I've learnt over the years it is that the things I remember (and still think about) are the places I've been to and not the stuff I've owned. I'd also say that there are plenty of very "decent" lenses for the M system that cost far less than £3k (£9k-M10).
Ouroboros Posted August 27, 2018 Share #24 Posted August 27, 2018 People buy, or want, camera gear for different reasons but the most interesting photographers to me are those that actually use their cameras to create images to have their artistic voices heard, rather than congratulate each other on what they own. I don’t know whether it’s because Leica is perceived as a luxury brand and will by default attract such people, but there seems to be a culture amongst some here that owning expensive camera gear, motorbikes, cars, mountain bikes and (good grief!) camera bags confers some sort of multiple expert status. It doesn’t. I’m sure a thread discussing the drive for ownership of possessions would quickly become polarised and possibly unpleasant. All I do know is that since I made a personal decision a number of years ago to downsize, simplify and unburden my life from excess stuff, I’ve lived a far happier and more creatively satisfying life. I hope the op enjoys his Leica gear, whatever his reasons are for buying it and wanting to tell people about what he owns.

budjames Posted August 27, 2018 Author Share #26 Posted August 27, 2018 Man, i'm jealous! I got into the M10 a few months before you did (coming from the Sony A7S2), and I only have two lenses! After I switched from Canon FF Pro DSLRs to Fuji X about 4-1/2 years ago, I sold all of my Canon gear, except for the Canon L 17,, f4 tilt-shift lens which I use occasionally with an adapter on my Fuji bodies. I had enough cash left over afterwards to buy an M10 body and Summicron 35 lens. The rest of the Leica lens purchases were because I have the resources. My first Leica lens, the Summicron 35, is my most used lens and spends the most time on my M10. My Summilux 50 is my next most used lens and spends most of it's time on my second M10 body. I'm still relearning how to zone focus effectively for street photography, but my rate of sharp photos is much higher than when I first started using Leica. Loving the image quality and the simplicity of the Leica M10. The ones who are down-to-earth and realise that their life is not going to magically change because they've invested in a certain type of camera system? Please do. Narsuitus Posted August 27, 2018 Share #28 Posted August 27, 2018 I hope the op enjoys his Leica gear, whatever his reasons are for buying it and wanting to tell people about what he owns. I also hope Bud enjoys his Leica gear and continues to share his reasons for buying and using it because I value his information. He is one of the few people I know who use Fuji and Leica gear like I do.
IkarusJohn Posted August 27, 2018 Share #29 Posted August 27, 2018 (edited) The ones who are down-to-earth and realise that their life is not going to magically change because they've invested in a certain type of camera system? Please do. Hmm, close, but no cigar. Those ones are out taking photos. Edited August 27, 2018 by IkarusJohn
budjames Posted August 28, 2018 Author Share #30 Posted August 28, 2018 Lol, that’s exactly what happened in most of us..I think I know where Bud James going in next 2-3 years..he will think to buy another Leica body in 6-12 months, if not an SL maybe a Q, or M Monochrom lol...then when he become more passionate about Leica, his Leica buds introduce him to Leica film camera, from there he will think to reduce some of his lenses, try to find a film body then starting to collect vintage lenses..always buying lots of bags that suit his carrying and so on...... That’s a Leica life, once you attached to it, you will take it to your grave..it’s an investment, it’s an art, it’s a masterpiece, it’s a tool, It’s a Leica..it will change your life.. Wow, I'm doomed! I can think of worse things to do with my money. Actually, I have been spending more money on extensive vacations in the past few years. The recent burst of Leica extravagance is now done, for now. Later this year, we are going to New Zealand and Australia for 4 weeks. I can't wait! budjames Posted August 28, 2018 Author Share #31 Posted August 28, 2018 I also hope Bud enjoys his Leica gear and continues to share his reasons for buying and using it because I value his information. He is one of the few people I know who use Fuji and Leica gear like I do. Thank you for comments. To everyone on this thread: If you buy gear responsibly (don't take out a mortgage for it), then it's as good a hobby as any other. I still enjoy using my Fuji kit because of the excellent Fuji XF zoom lenses although I do own a number of Fuji XF primes, which are also excellent. I post in only two forums consistently these days - this one and Fuji-X Forums. Over the years, I have learned and benefited greatly from posters in such topical forums. I have participated in countless threads and add my own thoughts, like this original post, to share my experiences with others. I think it's part of being a good "citizen" in the Fuji and Leica communities. My original post was not bragging, but an attempt to open the discussion and comments by new Leica users. Everyone is invited. Buying my first Leica in December 2017 scratched a 45 year itch to own a Leica that started in high school (my 45th high school reunion is this October). It's a bucket list thing. Fortunately, my third career for the past 25 year as a business owner, financial planner and wealth manager, affords me the resources to purchase Leica gear and travel a lot. I built my practice, and now with two partners, to employ 18 people in five offices in PA and NJ to collectively serve thousands of individual and business clients. I'm just as passionate about helping my clients as I am about photography. As I'm the senior partner, I can now take off for weeks at a time several times a year to travel with my family. It's a great life, but not until after years of 60-70 hour work weeks.
