mmradman Posted August 20, 2018 Share #21 Â Posted August 20, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Apart from customary keeping camera facing down when blowing dust out keep good cleanliness of lens and body caps, keep them screwed together, avoid storing individual halves, also putting into pockets which are usually gold mine for dust and dirt in general. Advertisement Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Hi mmradman, Take a look here How to avoid dust in the M10?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
daveco Posted August 21, 2018 Share #22 Â Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) Just got the sticky stick. Checked for dust for first time (got M10 week before last); had four specks show up @f/22 with dust detection. After 3 cleanings andchecks, dust detection shows no dust. I would much prefer the camera had a cleaning function, like my Canons, but the dust detection function is a time saver. 250swb Posted August 21, 2018 Share #23  Posted August 21, 2018 Just got back from an overseas assignment for the week, I log on to see what is going on in Leica land, check out this thread and then read this and other snarky comments.  I just don’t get it, seems being a jerk to people is a rite of passage on here, what a bleak place.  The Leica Forum can be a bleak place, there are more 'victims' here than most other camera forums combined so it's often very depressing.  It often starts with the preciousness the cameras are held in, people have to go to a dealer to have their sensor cleaned because 'hey, it's a £5000 camera'. I think digital photography imparts a short term memory, I mean, what was there before digital, I can't remember, somebody told me once about film? Same with digital cameras, what was there before self cleaning sensors? Time was when a top end digital Nikon or Canon cost as much as a car and it didn't clean itself, so what did those poor people do, they 'dealt with it'. If you perceive comments as 'snarky' when they are simply trying to reinforce the idea that sensor cleaning is an easy thing to do, and to stop people being held hostage to a bit of dust, then fine, but it isn't helping those dusty sensors or the fuzzball of fear clouding the mind. Mark II Posted August 21, 2018 Share #24 Â Posted August 21, 2018 Oddly I have had virtually zero sensor dust issues with the M10. Occasionally it needs a pass with a bulb blower, but so far it has not needed a wet clean. I change lenses daily, often on the street or while hiking. Â Conversely my M262 was much much worse - to the extent that I was afraid to change lenses while out. I do not know it this was a problem specifically with my 262 or if the M10 sensor coatings were improved. Â That said I have a problem with dust in the rangefinder on the M10. There is some kind of fibre that appears sharply in the rangefinder patch and which makes focusing a pain. I have to thump the camera to dislodge it. Neither the 262 nor a much abused M7 showed anything like this, and I thought that the M10 was supposed to be sealed.
albertknappmd Posted August 21, 2018 Share #25  Posted August 21, 2018 Remember that old adage... The only two things in life that are certain are Death and Taxes? Well it is now three things in life... Death, Taxes and Sensor Dust... Albert
