When I was still shooting film I'd unbox the film canisters and keep them in clear zip-lock plastic bags, hand the bag(s) to security agents, and request hand inspection.  Often they'd tell me there's no problem with ISO 400 or below film, which I'd counter with x-rays being cumulative, and I have x number of flights -- And some times we'd have a dozen or more flights.  Only three times have I been denied hand inspection:  Once at Charles De Gaul and twice at Heathrow.  We travel a lot.
