I have Harry Benz strap on order. It will be a black cape buffalo black strap with accents around the edges and whee the lugs go. I'd like to see the entire strap edge is red plus the lug ring would trimmed in red .If Harry Benz check these pages if the doo please contact me.

I know I've seen posts from Harry on other threads. Try a search for "Harry Benz" and I suspect you will find him. I'd suggest sending a private message from here. Isn't there also a contact form on his site? 

 

For what its worth, I am also looking at one of his straps. They look very nice indeed.

Peter: I understand your wonder though.... I am in wonder at my several Harry Benz straps. They are custom length, very comfortable (wear across chest and slide easily and perfectly to eye), no worries about failures (hopefully true for all camera straps?), and they are beautiful too (not true for all camera straps!!).

Let see you just spent 10K for a body and lens ..... 5 of 6k if you got a deal.

$200 is a bargain! for the finest hand made camera strap EVER! ....IMO

Sure the original equipment will work just fine but Harry's strap is perfection, that I deserve

Its the perfect length, looks great, feels better, wonderful thoughtful design that won't ding up your camera and .... this is the sad part .....it will probably never need replacing.

 

I want more cameras to justify another Benz strap

 

Man I'm glad he does't make other leather goods ....'cause I am hooked!

I have one of Harry's Vintage B straps on my M-P 240 Safari.  It is the best camera strap in the world IMHO.

 

The leather straps made by Leica are great straps - I have a the black Leica strap on my M4-P but Harry's Vintage B is a cut above even the Leica leather strap.

I’m sorry to disappoint you but I do make other leather goods. They are just not (yet) on my website.

Besides straps I am working currently on a briefcase that will also moonlight as a stylish camera bag.

Custom made to order from the finest materials. Black Clemènce bull calf leather with French Chèvre (goat) leather in electric blue for the inside. As always handcrafted and hand stitched to perfection (saddle stitched just like Hermès does).

When I looked at the price of these straps I had to wonder at the need to replace a perfectly functional strap supplied by Leica. Am I alone?

If you don’t mind let’s look at this from another perspective. To better illustrate how much work goes into my straps, I came up with the following.

To make a camera strap it takes a certain amount of steps to work through. Each step might take more or less time than the next. But when looking for a common denominator to determine what it takes to make a certain camera strap (any strap) from beginning to end, counting the essential steps needed gives a better and fairer picture than looking at how much time is involved.

Besides, everybody works differently, with or without machines, one or several people and so on.

I don’t know how others make their straps nor would I ever pretend to know or worse, question their methods. That’s not what this is about.

 

So, for comparison I looked at a very well known strap from Italy and figured out how many steps it would take me to duplicate it. And the number of steps is 7.

(Btw, I did the same with another well known strap from a different maker. The number was 3.)

Then I did the same for my straps. Depending on the model the number is between 47 to 63 steps.

Last week, I received a Vintage B in black, with some red stitching on the ends and I absolutely love it!  It is quite easy to dismiss straps as an unnecessary addition, but I'm not the biggest fan of the stock Leica M strap. I find the center wide pad portion to be a bit uncomfortable. I do wish this was a bit longer, but it's fine. I also hope it will soften a bit more with use as I often wrap the strap around my wrist/arm while holding the camera. While wonderfully soft leather right now, the thickness makes it a little tough ti wrap how I prefer.

Michael,

Give it a couple weeks of use and the strap will become a lot softer than it already is. With time it will become glove like soft. And that without stretching.

Got my B-strap for the M10 from Harry Benz last night. Feels great: supple enough to wind around my wrist when I want to use it as a wrist strap, doesn't slip off my shoulder and looks good too; feels secure. I just wanted a short, plain black strap, with the logo stamped on the underside, For anyone interested:

 

Strap Length: 33 inches

Stitch Colour: Black
Trim Colour: No trim
Grooves: None

 

In another thread, some people were concerned that the strap would chafe against the camera body. I don't see  problem, but I'm not that fussy if there were some strap marks on the body — the camera is a tool to be used — actually there already are some minor marks from the M9 nylon strap that I was using because the M10 leather strap was too long for me.

 

Harry Benz's B-strap — highly recommended; but I've gotta stop running my fingers along it: it just feels so good. And I am not HB's relative! Just a satisfied customer. Never thought I would post about a wretched camera strap.
