jay968 Posted July 10, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have read in various places that the Nikon off camera flash cords are fully TTL compatible with Leica flash and camera equipment. Can anyone confirm this? If so, is there a specific one to use? Thanks

Luke_Miller Posted July 10, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2018 Yes - all of the Nikon TTL flash cords support TTL on Leica flashes. The only ones I would avoid are the early Nikon SC-17 cords that lack the hole for the flash locking pin. Later SC-17 and all SC-28 cords are fine. One thing to be careful of is that the Nikon and Leica pin positions are not perfectly aligned. The flash will normally work fine, but In my experience if the Leica flash moves even slightly in the Nikon flash shoe (which tends to be a rather loose fit with Nikon flashes) one or more of the Leica flash connectors can lose contact. This is not an frequent issue, particularly if the Leica flash foot is fully tightened down in the Nikon shoe. But I have experienced it with both my SF-58 and SF-24D when the flash is mounted on a flash bracket that I am rotating to portrait or landscape orientation, or if I am bouncing the flash and constantly re-positioning the flash head. I would not expect any problem if the flash is to be mounted on a flash stand or otherwise not disturbed. Unfortunately there is no TTL flash cord specific to Leica flashes. jay968 Posted July 10, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted July 10, 2018 Thanks for the info. I ordered the SF60 and I suppose I could have ordered the wireless trigger too but didn't want to spend the extra money right now since I already have a couple of Nikon SC-29 cords. We'll see how well they work.
Gelatino Posted July 14, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2018 Do you use Nikon flash (SB-700 or more recent) on leica body hotshoe or with SC-28? Luke_Miller Posted July 14, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2018 Do you use Nikon flash (SB-700 or more recent) on leica body hotshoe or with SC-28? Generally I use my Leica flashes, but my SB-800, and SB-25 work fine in the hotshoe of my M-240 (and M9 previously) as long as I set them to Manual or Auto. I have not used them with my SC-17 or SC-28 cords and the Leica, but I would be amazed if they didn't work properly. I don't have any of the newer Nikon flashes since my old ones keep working just fine. The SB-700 looks to be Manual and i-TTL only, so it would be manual only if used with the Leica.
sillbeers15 Posted July 15, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 15, 2018 Before the Leica SF60 & SF C! wireless TTL/HSS flash kit, I used to use a Phottix Nikon compatible cord to bring my SF58 to OCF position. I had no issues at all firing manual or TTL seetting flashes from my M240, M10 & SL. In my short span of usage experience on the SF60 & SF C1, I did encounter pircular problems as the remote triggering will work perfrctly on TTL but not manual flash setting when the set were just turned on. After a while of usage all works fine.
jay968 Posted July 15, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted July 15, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Got my SF60 and can say that it works perfectly with the Nikon SC-29 cord. I AM ordering a Leica trigger though, just wanted to know if the Nikon cord could be relied on as a backup.
