carstenw Posted July 10, 2007 Share #42 Posted July 10, 2007 I think Tronna would be closer I lived there for 19 years. Great city. We *end* our sentences with "eh", eh?
leicabug Posted July 11, 2007 Share #43 Posted July 11, 2007 Someone else just put their newly-arrived 30% off Noctilux on Ebay so it I imagine there are now more trickling out of Solms. The bidding is over. It was sold for $4,210.00.
wlaidlaw Posted July 11, 2007 Share #44 Posted July 11, 2007 The bidding is over. It was sold for $4,210.00. That's quite a significant discount on list price. I think this does demonstrate that the 30% lenses are depressing the price a bit. Wilson
carstenw Posted July 11, 2007 Share #45 Posted July 11, 2007 Wilson, I am not sure if this is right. There has problably newer been an un-opened, new Noctilux without warranty for sale before. I presume this is what happens when you sell without warranty.
wlaidlaw Posted July 11, 2007 Share #46 Posted July 11, 2007 Carsten, When I started to think that a Noctilux was calling to me about 3 months ago, I began by looking on eBay. Secondhand ones were fetching this much then. I decided it was too delicate a lens, and given the price, too big a risk to buy a lens of unknown provenance and history on eBay. That's when I posted that I would be happy to come to a mutually agreeable arrangement with anyone who did not intend using a 30% voucher. In the end I acquired my current lightly used one from another forum member, and of course since it had just come back from coding and a full service at Solms, I knew it was going to be perfect - yeah right! Still, all's well that ends well, with lots of help from the forum member I bought it from. I still think that Leica should offer to refund the not insignificant postage+insurance, when they have messed up or at least offer a Leica goods voucher to the same value. This was requested but seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Wilson
ckchen72 Posted July 11, 2007 Share #47 Posted July 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok guys, I want to clarify something, not that I feel I should, but I really love this forum. I was the one that sold the Noctilux on ebay. I am by no means rich, and really can't afford a wide assortment of lenses. I shoot a lot of documentary, avaialbel light photogrsphy and some portraiture. With its reputation I had at first decided on the Noctilux, but in hindsight felt the 28 f/2 would be a better lens for me. By then it was too late to switch the discount offer. Not being able to afford both lenses, I sold it and am now using the proceeds to by the other lens. Would I love both, absolutely, and for those fortunate enough to be able to afford both, that's great. But please don't make assumptions on other people's motives. Again, I have just made the switch to digital, and absolutely love the forum, and have learnewd tons from you all, I just felt like I needed to stand up. Thanks
Guest guy_mancuso Posted July 11, 2007 Share #48 Posted July 11, 2007 Hey you have to do what you have to do. I sold more lenses in my life that just killed me to sell them and not always to buy another lens but to pay a bill or something. It's just life man. Glad you told us but you did not have too. c6gowin Posted July 12, 2007 Share #49 Posted July 12, 2007 I am sure most of us completely understand - plans/ideas change. In reality, the 28 Cron is the better choice from a practical / frequency of use standpoint. I ordered Noctilux as my 30% off lens simply because I figured that would be the only way I would ever get one. However, after using one (for the first time) on the German Leica trip I am so happy I ordered it and expect to get good use out of it. The only problem is that I also borrowed a 28 Cron on the trip and now I have to get one of those as well. I just need to figure out how to afford both. The 28 Cron is now at the top of my wish list. Guest guy_mancuso Posted July 12, 2007 Share #50 Posted July 12, 2007 Honestly the 28 cron IMHO should be on the top of everyones list. I absolutely love this lens, it truly is a lens cap for me. Seriously Calvin it was a better choice to get this than keep the Nocti which is a great lens but you will certainly get more use from the 28 cron.
