Is there a shortcut or button push that will automatically recenter the crosshair when using Liveview?

No,

never found how to do it.

Only "quick path" is to turn the M10 off then on again.

Its been on the list of requests for a firmware update for a long time, but sadly, it has yet to materialize.

Just try now what you suggest, the focus patch (if moved of course) stays where it was/is.

I loaded the Capture Assistants into my Favorites Menu so it's handy and then I will sometimes turn the "6 x 4 grid" on and use it to center the Crosshairs or Spot metering mode circle.

The grid can help and you manually recenter it, but turning the camera off and back on is the only way to have it actually "reset" at this point.
