Johnnypw Posted June 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I've been reading the forum for a while but just recently joined, so I'm a newbie here. I've been loving my Q since I got it last month. I usually shoot in jpeg since it's very good out of the camera and for my needs it's sufficient. My question is - when I upload the pictures to google drive, I noticed that it says it's 16MP and not 24MP. I am attaching the screenshot. I also uploaded another picture shot on my older Sony SLT-A57, and it's also 16MP. But then the Sony Camera is only 16MP. Can anybody shed some light into this? is there a setting so I can get 24MP of my photos? or does google drive reduce the size? By the way, I always transfer my SD card to my macbook first then upload to google drive. I'm not using the App for transferring the files (I'm afraid the app transfer might make the file smaller for faster transmission). Thank you for any information regarding this matter. Advertisement Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Hi Johnnypw, Take a look here How to upload 24MP to Google Drive. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2018 MP is the pixel count. MB is the image size. You'll find it in the metadata panel, in EXIF. The example I post comes from Lightroom Clssic, but you can use any EXIF-reading program. Check that first. If you did no set the camera to 35 or 50 mm angle of view, you should get 6000x4000. If you find that your JPG files coming from the 28 mm setting in the camera are smaller in pixel count, check whether you have set it to a lower JPG quality. Welcome, dear visitor! Leica Guy Posted June 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted June 18, 2018 Good job Jaapv! This forum is so helpful and patient with new to Q owners. One of the things I most like about hanging out here.
SonomaBear Posted June 18, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 18, 2018 Although most of my Q images are shot in DNG, I enjoy using JPEG for family events and non-critical shooting. If you shoot DNG, the file is always full frame, even when "cropped" to 35mm or 50mm. The resulting JPEG "sidecar" (what is displayed in viewfinder and rear LCD) are cropped. JPEG output is always cropped and compressed. Great for quick uploads to Google Drive and for sending via text. At the highest settings, the JPEG shot at 50mm perspective is still 5mp -- plenty for today's usage and small enough to send via email or text. That 5mp file compresses well. In an insane moment, I carefully shot a portrait at 50mm perspective, saving as both DNG/JPEG. Use your best habits because the file is tiny, no room for corrections. I then printed both the 5mp JPEG and the cropped DNG on 13"x19" paper -- the DNG was better but from a file far larger than the JPEG. The JPEG 50mm print was perfectly usable! I love this Q -- my DSLR kit gathers a lot of dust....
Johnnypw Posted June 19, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted June 19, 2018 Thank you for the reply. As far as I know, I haven't set the quality of the jpg to lower quality, but I'll look into it more. I haven't played with it that much yet.

prk60091 Posted June 19, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 19, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) it sounds to me like you are shooting 35mm equivalent and your jpg's will be 16MP rather than 24MP. In order to get the 'full' 24MP you need to be shooting at 28mm focal length -- not cropped down to 35mm.... nothing wrong with that--just the way things work.
