marcg Posted June 9, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have no idea where to place the thread so I'm starting it here and hopefully the mods will move it to a more suitable place. Maybe you could edit out this little message as well. Ta. ........................................................ With the introduction of the Nissin/Leica SF60 flash and commander unit there may be quite a number of people starting to take images using HSS flash. I don't have an HSS unit and I don't have any images to post – but I would be very interested to see what other people are doing so I understand far more how it works and the effects. I think that others might also be interested as well and might even be prompted to splash out on an awfully-good-value SF60‽‽‽ I'd be very grateful if people could post their Leica HSS images on this thread – and also give some idea of shutter speed and aperture as well as flash model and the position of the flash if it was off-camera using the new commander. Exodies Posted June 9, 2018 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2018 (edited) It beggars belief that it would work. A motor driving a slit down the frame while a completely separate lamp strobes. How in sodomy is that going to provide even illumination? Or is the flash on for the full 180th of a second of the exposure? marcg Posted June 16, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted June 16, 2018 Well maybe it doesn't work at all. I really thought that this thread might attract a surge of people who had indulged in a closet-interest in High-Speed-Flashing – but it seems no one wants to come out at the moment. Maybe it's the flash that durst not speak its name.
sillbeers15 Posted June 17, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2018 There are very few Leica users that are profession in handling artificial light let alone HSS lighting for creative applications. Perhaps a tread in Off camera flash & HSS flash can have a better response (but I still think very few would do so). Btw, good application of fill flash would be undectable by the untrained eye. Fritz Posted September 16, 2018 Share #6 Posted September 16, 2018 Ok here are the findings of my experiment. I found 3 ways to achieve HSS flash capture. 1. The good ole SC-17 flash extension cord/shoe from Nikon with the SF-58 or SF-64. Both those flashes are capable of firing in "manual" mode high speed with the SL601 at all shutter (mechanical) speeds. 2. The new SF-C1 remote commander in Auto or TTL mode paired with the new SF-60 flash. The flash is a bit anemic so to juice the power use any godox or flashpoint flash {AD200, AD360, AD600} in manual mode with optical slave in S2 and the high-speed sync turned on. This set up is wireless, clean and effective at all shutter(mechanical) speeds with ANY Leica camera. 3. Priolite remote commander with 3.5mm stereo cable plugged into any godox / flashpoint flash in manual mode with HSS turned on. This setup is good for studio work and shooting in the bright sun on the beach where the optical slaves are not dependable. There must be a simpler way to do this but I haven't found it.
