I would love to have as a second camera a M10 size SL with the M bajonet. No autofocus, a "simple" and small  SL for my M lenses.

They're probably releasing a rangefinder style SL with an M adapter. It will guaranteed use the SL mount. Even Andreas Kaufmann himself said to expect something new in June that uses the SL mount, that will show off what the mount capable off, in the Luminous Landscape Youtube interview that was released recently. Basically the Leica Q with interchangeable lenses and M adapter.

“Although perhaps considered sacrilegious by old Leica hands here”

Indeed. What you propose here is a real insult to the M tradition, preposterous! I’m surprised you don’t ask for a beep as a confirmation of focus! Please go back to your auto-everything brand and leave the Leica M tradition virginally clean. This is as if the Wiener Philharmoniker would play Miss Saigon and The Lion King’s medley’s at New Year’s Day instead of Johann Strauss.

Btw: now that the SL is there, the M can be brought back to the real essentials and the EVF can be skipped.

New M10 owner here, with a long experience as a Nikon shooter. Previous camera was a D5. Although perhaps considered sacrilegious by old Leica hands here, the following would make my enjoyment of the M10 even greater:

  • focus confirmation - if you can put focus peaking on the rear screen, why not have the traditional focus confirmation LED in the viewfinder. This would have to be read off of the sensor, certainly. So you would still use the rangefinder to focus, but have a trusty left arrow/dot/right arrow confirmation and aid to tell you you have nailed it.

First this is not possible...To confirm focus, the camera must know what area of the image you want to confirm. Is it infinity...is it the subjects nose, forehead, eye?

Regardless, this is contrary to the entire M system...which is manual focus. Even if it was possible, which it simply is not...this is not what the M is about. You either embrace the simplicity that is M or find another solution that works for you.
