I'm looking for a travel tripod you can use for both. The tripod should serve me mostly for night shots.

I use a 3T mini tripod and a Sirui T-025 X carbon travel tripod. The carbon tripod is great.

I've had a Gitzo 15xx with a RRS BH30 head. It works great, but the Gitzos have become really expensive. Last year I got a Leofoto LT-254CT with a DB-34 head and bag as a kit. I am really impressed with the build quality. As good or better than the Gitzo and at a reasonable price. Something like the LN-254C (current model) weighs in at 1.5 kg. Add your favourite head and you're good to go.
