This is the small harbour of the boating club of Casablanca, a residencial compound in Same in the Province of Esmeraldas (Ecuador).

As always, when I want to travel light, I brought with me my trusty D Lux 4. Great IQ in a small "package".

The day was cloudy and the black and white treatment - with Silver Efex Pro 2 - adds a dramatic touch to the picture.

Thanks for looking, comments are welcome.

Must have been a special situation. I find however the image overprocessed, I wouldn’t hang it on my wall because it would itch my eyes, it seems oversharpened and overstructured in CaptureOne terms

Otto, Thank you for your comment. You're right, the original in color was a little bit overexposed.

Hi Francois. Nice to see you left the Nikon at home and took your D for a change.  Nice image, I rather like the drama of the black and white.  Last time I stayed at Casablanca, the air conditioning was not working and would have welcomed those clouds, Same is just too hot for me.    Regards, Wally

Hi Wally, Great to read you! Yes the DLux4 is my preferred camera for small trips with friends who are not photographers. In Ecuador there is always a lot of light so I can shoot with ISO 80, that's when my D give an impressive IQ. Regards. François

I find this nicely composed, and the B&W processing of the bottom half of the picture (though heavily sharpened) quite appealing.

However, the top half looks like an HDR image pushed through a Photoshop artistic filter to make it smudgy and overly contrasty. That part of the image is distracting and perplexing.

Abrewer, Thank you for taking the time to comment. There were no Photoshop and no sharpening in the picture. It was only processed with Silver Efex Pro2. May be the choice of the "film" in Silver Efex turned it to grainy. This is the original color picture OOC.

The bottom half of the picture is sharp because the focus was done on the plants in the foreground. The lens was wide open, at f/2.8.

Regards.
