schattenundlicht Posted April 8, 2018 Author Share #23 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) How does the 6-blade version compare with the 8-blade version? You may have mixed this up. Leica has developed a special ‚stochastically serrated‘ nonlinear aperture which enormously added to the development cost Edited April 8, 2018 by schattenundlicht

pico Posted April 8, 2018 Share #25 Posted April 8, 2018 Just think of how Leica's pricing of the lens element is air, and how very expensive air will become now!
Gobert Posted April 8, 2018 Share #26 Posted April 8, 2018 I like this new design very much. It’s the best example of “form follows function”. Do you happen to know when production will start?

Though now I am in fear of indictment for insider trading...

Do you happen to know when production will start? Currently they have to wait for production of the new sensor-less ‚M10 zero‘ with which some of the Refractomars will be bundled.
JohnnySeven Posted April 8, 2018 Share #29 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) Its so good to see Leica re-invent this classic. The hood for this lens "SCHMOOKY" will retail for $765.USD and consists of a piece of cardboard tube reminiscent of the classic bathroom tissue type. There will also be a LHSA model with a logo hand applied with silver sharpy for a $1000usd premium. Well worth the price, and destined to become a collectors favorite. In classic Leica style, the more they take away the more they charge. Edited April 8, 2018 by JohnnySeven
pico Posted April 8, 2018 Share #30 Posted April 8, 2018 I learned that Leica will apply an extra fee for lenses filled with 78.09% nitrogen. .
schattenundlicht Posted April 8, 2018 Author Share #31 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) I learned that Leica will apply an extra fee for lenses filled with 78.09% nitrogen. . Which, given the state of environmental sealing of their lenses, will remain in there for the timespan of one focusing throw Edit: they will supply refill kits of genuine Wetzlar gaseous mixture at a premium. JohnnySeven Posted April 8, 2018 Share #34 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) The next Leica product release will be a small red leica logo with no camera body or lens at all. This minimal design approach forces the photographer to forget about mechanical devices and use his or her eye and mind to memorize visual images and save them in the cerebral cortex thus affording the user a more pure visual experience. farnz Posted April 8, 2018 Share #36 Posted April 8, 2018 I understand that this is a ground-breaking 100% scratch resistant lens. The lens can be easily cleaned with a blower but for best and longest-lasting results a proprietary Leica compressed air unit should be used. The Leica proprietary compressed air unit is filled with specially graded air that's only found in the highest class of ping pong balls, which explains the prohibitive pricing. According to word on the Leica grape-vine the lens has also been designed to work in outer space without adjustment. The pan-focus model shown in the OP is very appealing but I look forward to the autofocus version. Pete.

tobey bilek Posted April 8, 2018 Share #38 Posted April 8, 2018 I made some of these for Zone 6 4x5. Drawing some lines in the air, I was able to rise /fall, shift l/r. Great fun. Not sharp enough for 35 mm. You need to make a burr free hole and it is very difficult. Put it in your enlarger and see the edges. Sites sell pro made holes.
Exodies Posted April 8, 2018 Share #39 Posted April 8, 2018 Re use in outer space: does the replacement of the air in the lens by a vacuum alter the character of the images? (Serious question)
pico Posted April 9, 2018 Share #40 Posted April 9, 2018 Re use in outer space: does the replacement of the air in the lens by a vacuum alter the character of the images? (Serious question) Not on Sundays. Light (photons) have no mass.
