Going through my unprocessed DMR files I've found a few more Rolls Royce cars photographed at past Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club Annual Rallies - some with interesting histories discovered when researching the registrations.

First up is a 1950 RR Silver Wraith James Young, ordered new by well known British entertainer George Forby OBE  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Formby

This 1931 RR 40/50 HP Phantom II Continental Sports Saloon was owned by eccentric gambler the Hon Dorothey Paget who has an interesting Wiki entry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Paget

I'll likely add a few more classic RR and Bentley cars to this thread over the next few days

Best wishes

Many thanks for these lovely pictures, and lovely cars.

It is too bad – IMO – that Roll Royce is so iconic as to draw inevitable attention. I could (probably) afford a nice used Silver Shadow, Spur or Seraph, but it would look so presumptuous as to be impossible.

I have a very good  “S” class Mercedes (W126) that I drive only in the summer. It draws a little attention (it is beautiful shape), but nothing like a Rolls Royce. And it is a VERY good car – competent and comfortable, fast and agile. At about 270,000 kms it is just approaching middle age, and it may see me out. And it is cheap to maintain compared with a Rolls Royce – keeping it off winter roads is the key to longevity around here.

Many members of the RR Enthusiasts Club maintain their own cars and at relatively low cost. Secondhand spares are readily available as are tools and workshop manuals … and at the annual RREC Rally there are usually several demonstrations / video presentations showing e.g. how to strip down RR transmissions. Some companies specialise in selling refurbished RR/Bentley parts.

A usable 'modern' RR / Bentley can be purchased for ££reasonable but as with any older cars they should be professionally inspected to ensure corrosion will not be a problem.

I get some of this information passed on by a cousin, who usually brings his Silver Wraith II over from NI for the annual bash.

He does have a number of other cars too, but the RR is his "baby" :)

It's a 3 day event  June 22-24 2018 inclusive at Burghley House Stamford and this year includes an 'Olympia Special' exhibition featuring all makes of cars 1946-49 … a tribute to celebrate the first post-war 1948 Olympia Motor Show  … motor cycles also included. A suitable event to use your 1948 Leica.  There will also be trade stands featuring e.g. vintage watches (Vacheron Constantin exhibited last year) so could be a good opportunity for classic camera dealers to display classic Leica cameras.
