jaeger Posted March 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I started this hobby using Nikon 35mm film machines about 30 years ago. I begun digitizing with an amazing tiny Leica d-lux4 back in about 10+ years ago. For curiosity, I tried Panaleica last 2 year ago but everything in the M43 world are just a joke and fantasy, the d-lux4 was actually better... Lately, a mid life crisis, I start looking Leica cameras. This mojo ain't cheap so I thought about different ways to enter Leica world. Rob a bank, finance it, leasing, buy used... should I start with Leica lenses and mount on nikCanSony body or start with a Leica body and mount nikCanSony lenses? Since I have few Nikon lenses left, I guess in my case to start with a Leica body making more sense. I've done few months of homework researching on the internet asked around friends but it's never too much questions. Can anyone please give me a head's up on anything I should be aware of? I've also noticed SL ain't selling well therefore many new old stocks out there, should I be worried NOS? I am also getting a Novoflex NIK/LEN mount, is it a good choice? Thank you in advanced. Advertisement Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Hi jaeger, Take a look here New guy in the market of a SL body. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vladik Posted March 22, 2018 Share #2 Posted March 22, 2018 My suggestion is to get a SL and a SL24-90, do not compromise using all sorts of adapters and third party lenses you would be missing on many features that SL and native SL lenses combine have. Sell some of the Nikon lenses that you have to part finance Leica.

I've been looking for a second hand 50SL so have been trawling the UK used dealer sites. There are currently two offers on second hand SLs with the 24-90 included for about or less than the price of a new SL body on its own. Richard Caplan - £4996 http://www.richardcaplan.co.uk/eCommerce/product.aspx?cat=102&prod=6731 Harrison Cameras - £5600 https://www.harrisoncameras.co.uk/pd/used-leica-sl-black-system-camera-10850-with-24-90mm-f28-4-lens-11176_used-4967452-4522586 In addition, Red Dot have two bodies for under £3700 and Wex has a 24-90 for £2110 so you also have an even cheaper option with a combination from these two retailers.

jaeger Posted March 25, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted March 25, 2018 Just as an update, that Vario-Elmarit on Wex is now down to £1900! a SL with cracked LCD screen is also rated 9. hmmm... I wish I could trust their rating. =D

I wish I could trust their rating. =D No need to. If you're not happy with the condition you just send it back. What's more worrying is that there is dust inside what is supposed to be a weather sealed lens. Edited March 25, 2018 by geetee1972
Irakly Shanidze Posted March 26, 2018 Share #8 Posted March 26, 2018 I like the prime 90mm f/2 instead of the zoom. =P Not the most universal choice... However, if portraits is all you do, you may be right.
