Weird question- using an SL with Leica R (with ef mount) possible?

Hey thank you in advance for helping me with this weird question...

I have an SL which I love. I also have some very nice Leica R lenses that have been “Cine-vised” for use on a Red camera and are now EF Mount.

Do you think it be possible to get the Novoflex SL to EF adaptor and use these EF-mounted R-lenses? Since the lenses don’t have autofocus, etc I’m hoping that increases my chances. Or are there any other ways to get EF mount lenses on an SL?

Thanks so much for the help!

The Novoflex adapter is not cheap, as it has electrical connections between lens and camera. 499 €

If your lenses are manual focus and aperture you would not need an active adapter and a cheaper  solution would be to use for instance SL-M and M-EOS adapters stacked. Fotodiox for instance.

If you don't want to spend to much money to give your lenses a try you could look on eBay here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EOS-L-T-Adapter-For-Canon-EOS-EF-Lens-To-Leica-LT-SL-Type-701-Mirrorless-Camera/322604639117?hash=item4b1cbc238d:g:YhMAAOSwt7hZcaT0

Hope that's helpful

Well I shouldn’t have overpayed and I should have searched for fotodiox better. The Novoflex doesn’t work! The evf/back screen is just black until I take a picture. I’m going to return and try the fotodiox next.

Actually, I had the experience that a passive L-R adapter made the camera refuse to activate the right wheel for magnification, so I reverted to using the Leica TL- M adapter  (which is of course recognized by the CL) and either the Novoflex LEM-LER or an old Leicina 22228 (modified to take all types of R mount). Both work fine.

So the TL-M adapter + an M-EOS  by for instance Fotodiox should be all right as well.

I find the EVF blackout surprising. It must have something to do with the electrical connection on the adapter.
