crlong Posted March 13, 2018 Share #1  Posted March 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey thank you in advance for helping me with this weird question... I have an SL which I love. I also have some very nice Leica R lenses that have been “Cine-vised” for use on a Red camera and are now EF Mount. Do you think it be possible to get the Novoflex SL to EF adaptor and use these EF-mounted R-lenses? Since the lenses don’t have autofocus, etc I’m hoping that increases my chances. Or are there any other ways to get EF mount lenses on an SL?  Thanks so much for the help!

frame-it Posted March 13, 2018 Share #2  Posted March 13, 2018 should work with the novoflex adapter    https://thecinelens.com/2011/08/11/leica-r-cine-mod-set/
jaapv Posted March 13, 2018 Share #3  Posted March 13, 2018 The Novoflex adapter is not cheap, as it has electrical connections between lens and camera. 499 € If your lenses are manual focus and aperture you would not need an active adapter and a cheaper solution would be to use for instance SL-M and M-EOS adapters stacked. Fotodiox for instance.
Bobitybob Posted March 13, 2018 Share #4  Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) If you don't want to spend to much money to give your lenses a try you could look on eBay here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EOS-L-T-Adapter-For-Canon-EOS-EF-Lens-To-Leica-LT-SL-Type-701-Mirrorless-Camera/322604639117?hash=item4b1cbc238d:g:YhMAAOSwt7hZcaT0  Hope that's helpful Edited March 13, 2018 by Bobitybob
crlong Posted March 13, 2018 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 13, 2018 Thanks so much everyone! In the interest of time bc of an upcoming shoot I went with the Novoflex on bh.
jaapv Posted March 13, 2018 Share #6 Â Posted March 13, 2018 Puzzled - The adapters I advised are on B&H as well (Fotodiox) The Novoflex is only useful if you use native EOS lenses.
crlong Posted March 14, 2018 Author Share #7  Posted March 14, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I must have mistyped the name of the fotodiox brand because I didn’t see them come up. Now I do see it after searching again. I’ll see how the Novoflex works when it arrives.
jaapv Posted March 14, 2018 Share #8 Â Posted March 14, 2018 It will work, but you are overpaying.
AlanJW Posted March 16, 2018 Share #9  Posted March 16, 2018 It will work, but you are overpaying. This is a Leica forum. Overpaying for things that work is not frowned on but embraced.

crlong Posted March 16, 2018 Author Share #11  Posted March 16, 2018 Well I shouldn’t have overpayed and I should have searched for fotodiox better. The Novoflex doesn’t work! The evf/back screen is just black until I take a picture. I’m going to return and try the fotodiox next.
jaapv Posted March 16, 2018 Share #12  Posted March 16, 2018 Actually, I had the experience that a passive L-R adapter made the camera refuse to activate the right wheel for magnification, so I reverted to using the Leica TL- M adapter (which is of course recognized by the CL) and either the Novoflex LEM-LER or an old Leicina 22228 (modified to take all types of R mount). Both work fine. So the TL-M adapter + an M-EOS by for instance Fotodiox should be all right as well. I find the EVF blackout surprising. It must have something to do with the electrical connection on the adapter.
