wizard Posted March 26, 2018 Share #21 Â Posted March 26, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Judging by the type of coating, this ex-Zeiss lens must be fairly recent. Where does it stem from? Yashica T4? Â Cheers, Andy

Yashica T4?  No idea as i've got the lens second hand but i don't need to push contrast nor sharpness in PP and the lens has little flare so T4 or T5 would make sense certainly.
lct Posted March 26, 2018 Author Share #23  Posted March 26, 2018 Sharp lens indeed, even on closeups at full aperture. MS 35/3.5, f/3.5, 0.8m. Full size: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-7Pb84gX/0/840fe15e/O/i-7Pb84gX.jpg
james.liam Posted March 27, 2018 Share #24  Posted March 27, 2018 Can someone educate me what I’m missing in the Tessar rendering? I had a Nikkor 45/2.8 years ago and aside from its size, I never took to it. f/2.8, even the center wasn’t all that impressive. Perhaps I missed some aesthetic element. lct Posted March 27, 2018 Author Share #25  Posted March 27, 2018 Can someone educate me what I’m missing in the Tessar rendering? I had a Nikkor 45/2.8 years ago and aside from its size, I never took to it. f/2.8, even the center wasn’t all that impressive. Perhaps I missed some aesthetic element.  Matter of tastes. If you did not like your Nikkor 45/2.8, Tessar or Tessar-like lenses are probably not for you. They don't pretend to compete with more modern designs at edges and corners but their strong points are high acutance, little flare, little CA and smooth bokeh elsewhere which gives them a unique rendering and even more on APS cameras thanks to cropping of edges and corners. As far as i'm concerned, i've always preferred Tessar and Elmar vs Planar and Summicron lenses, be it on film or digital. I was impressed by the great Contarex and its superb Planar 50/2 in my youth but i preferred its modest Tessar 50/2.8 or the smaller Contaflex and its Tessar 45/2.8 the same way as i still prefer my Elmar-M 50/2.8 to my otherwise outstanding Summicron 50/2 apo. Tessar the "Eagle Eye of your Camera" .
Beena22 Posted March 27, 2018 Share #26  Posted March 27, 2018 Same here. I have a Zeiss Planar and it’s a wonderful lens but it has taken a back seat since I bought an Elmar 50mm 2.8. I just love the way it renders.
