This lens is brilliant on the CL.

The handling is perfect, which should mean that the other Summacron SL lenses handle beautifully on the CL, and the rendering is lovely.

I haven't had a chance to do portraits of anyone except the kids yet, and I don't post them on the internet, but here is one of a painting, taken in low light and handheld at f/2.8, 1/80, ISO3200. Of course, it will tell you nothing about the rendering, so isn't very helpful. I'll post some more shots of the combo soon.

I'm really enjoying the SL lenses on the CL and, in particular, the size and shape of the Summacron seems to work well, with most of the weight sitting very nicely balance in the left hand and the right free to grip the camera lightly and manage the controls.

Not fine art, but here are some more normal samples.

Straight out of camera - no post process other than a .jpg conversion in Lightroom.

I think it’s terrific. On the SL it has replaced the 50 Lux as my favourite lens.

Im in Sydney and you’re welcome to borrow mine for a weekend if you want to demo one before pulling the trigger.

I appreciate your offer.

It’s been a long time on my to-get list. And part of my long time strategy for the gear. And I suddenly get the call. It must be fate.

It’s only 30min drive and $6.4K degree of separation.

I can tell it’s a cracker of a lens. I can *see it* in the viewfinder with my naked eyes. It’s a similar feeling I remember having when I looked through my SL’s viewfinder with a S-120 macro lens attached.

No time today for anything photography, so have taken two very first test shots, and these are jpegs OOC.

Click through to Flickr for full size.

Alistairm:

Did you replace the SL 50 1.4 or the M 50 1.4?

Just curious: (if it replaced the SL 50 1.4) what are/were your reasons for preferring it?

Thanks,

Rob

When I say “replaced”, I haven’t actually sold anything. It’s just that the 75 is the new favourite. That may change again and in fact I took a series with the SL 50 1.4 last night. It’s a brilliant lens, but I enjoy the handling of the 75 more and I am enjoying the focal length for slightly tighter portraits. Given how much I like the images from the 50 the 75 being able to displace it (even for a while) speaks to its image quality.

If I could only keep one I’d be torn!

Decisions, decisions!

I have the SL 50 1.4 and it has become my favorite lens, particularly with the software update which makes AF quite decent.

Having the SL 24-90, and the CL body,  I just did not think (too long :) ) about the 75 2.0 as an alternative but now you've got me going . . .

Thanks, a lot!

Rob

You had gotten me thinking so just took the below picture with the 50 1.4 on the CL.

Ivo,

I'm not sure exactly sure as to what you are asking, but let me take a stab below with an answer.

I own the SL 50 1.4, but not the SL 75 f2, so cannot compare compare the CL w SL 50 to the SL 601 with the 75 f2. (I can say, however, that the CL w the SL50 is terrific, so probably will not opt to spend the $ to acquire the SL75. Rather, I am thinking to wait until the SL 35 arrives so that I would have the 35-75 range covered with the SL601 and CL).

If you are simply looking for how the SL 50 'fits' on the CL, a photo is attached. Certainly, the set up is a  bit lighter than on the SL601 and with the "peak slide lite" strap it is not burdensome at all to carry around.

Thanks a lot, Rob! Swift response :) Exactly what I asked for. The combination does look a bit less heavy than I thought. I did handle the 1.4/50 SL once and found it massive. That was of course before I bought a used S2 and some s/h lenses :)

Cheers

The optics are just superb, so that offsets the weight!  :)  With the improved AF speed it is just a fantastic option.

Yes, quite tempting; I suppose I will go 'visit' the SL 75 at my local Leica shop once they become more plentiful. I might just change my thinking and get one, but for the moment I am thinking to just use the SL 50 on the CL, as the images produced  with that combination look superb.
