I am still converting from digital to my R6.2 and often forget to switch off the exposure meter system when leaving the camera.

As the system is activated only at each shot, will leaving it not "switched off" for a few days drain the batteries?

I don't know for R6-2, but when we (my wife and me) used everyday our R6 and never turn them to "off", the battery set silver oxide or one lithium 3V last about 6 months.

We took always with us anyway a spare battery rarely used.

Beware only if the camera is in a bag, in moving around, then the shutter release can be push "on" ( even if the shutter ring prevent that likely better than M shutter button).
