norm_snyder Posted February 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed, shooting in a relatively dark auditorium, but having used high iso and stopping down for more depth of field, when half-pressing the release to focus and set exposure, that if I did not fire the shutter, and instead released pressure, I got a bright flash in the finder [EVF]. This particularly occurs if slightly underexposing, to avoid blowing out highlights [performance photography]. This did not happen at wider apertures than f5.6. From f5.6 on down to f11, this occurs. If I do fire the shutter, but keep the pressure on the release, to the point of half press, anticipating another shot, but release it, with or without firing the shutter, the same thing happens. It presents as a brief, global [entire field of view] white flash that overrides the finder image, dissipates in a fraction of a second, and normal viewing is restored. All exposures are fine, and this happens regardless of the SD card used, whether 8, 16 or 32 Gb UHS-I. I am not certain whether this is an artifact or a bug or defect. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks, in advance for any help. --Norm

Mark Lyka Posted February 12, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2018 My experience confirms -- New Q silver as of this week, bright flash on shutter release of half press. Not sure why.
jmschuh Posted February 12, 2018 Share #3 Posted February 12, 2018 The aperture opens for AF.
norm_snyder Posted February 12, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted February 12, 2018 Seems logical that it would have to reopen, and that the change from much smaller apertures might overload the sensor/processor combination briefly. It’s reassuring that others have encountered this. Thanks.
