alan mcfall Posted February 8, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) From 1934 to the start of the war, Leitz offered the single exposure camera. It is still listed in the Oct. 1940 ELNY price list. It is hard to imagine using a test exposure device like this in todays photography, but 80+ years ago it made some sense I suspose to get that roll camera picture just right. I have not seen to much in the Forum about its use, so I will offer a couple of photos here. Welcome, dear visitor! To go into all the details would take a lengthy report, but as most of us know, a cast housing taking the LSM lens on the front, and a focusing screen and film holder on the rear. An accessory shoe for a finder on top, and a compur shuter for the front. Two different sizes of shutter were used. For later discussion, I show a "square" single exposure apparatus in the center of the photo. Now, a round exposuse housing is shown: ABOVE The focusing plate and the film holder with dark slide are shown on the left. A unique 50mm shoe finder is on top, SUWOO. A compur shutter with Leitz lens front flange mount on the right. Two flat mounting points are available. Here is a picture of the Square Leitz single exposure housing. No code word has been found, and most likely it was never released comercially. Some evidence of possible development exists before the war, see Lager Accessories page 298. It is marked ELW in multiple places, has a focusing plate with finder bayonet mount and square film holders. A SOODL 50mm saddle finder, post war rarity, is shown. Finally, a photo of some of the parts is shown: In the first photo is a homemade or prototype (unlikely) single exposure device where the shutter is behind the lens. It is not marked leitz. Perhaps more in a later post. If anyone has extended interest in this subject, it could be expanded upon in direct messaging, so as not to consume other forum members time.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! romanus53 Posted February 8, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2018 Really nice collection! Other manufactures as Zeiss had such devices too. Maybe that would be used in an scientific context and labs switched to Polaroids later.
mikemgb Posted February 10, 2018 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2018 I don’t think expanding in the subject here would “consume other forum members time”, many of us would find it fascinating and if posted here the information would also be available to future forum members.
