I don't like the modern serial number font very much especially the monospacing. To my eye it looks a bit like the computer script at the bottom of cheques. Proportional spacing of milled letters has been around for donkey's years, since CNC milling started in the late 1960's. It strikes me as plain laziness or sloppy, that Leica don't use it. Given the prices of Leica cameras, every care should be taken with the little details, that make the difference. Compare the uneven/non-parallel double stitching on the leather upholstery on a Tesla with that on a Porsche and you will get the point. It still works the same but just looks ugly and careless.
