I hope you appreciate that my comment related to the levels of frustration and anger that Linford was expressing in the post I quoted, and not to the thread itself.

Linford is not angry, just frustrated. I also got a good chuckle out of your comment. It is certainly true. I would assume you would agree that this no way to launch a product—at least a little bit, at least. ;-)

Yes, I just heard today it’s still scheduled to start shipping in March. That’s based on an updated forecast, BUT, I’m afraid, one at a time. My dealer will get exactly one lens. How many worldwide, I don’t know. Will it be more than ten in March? Maybe the mods should close this thread. And I hear 40 MPx FF sensor camera to be announced at the Photokina in September. Don’t ask me what camera. All I heard is that 40 is the number.

If it’s a Leica, that would suggest that a much higher MP S008 is announced sooner, or simultaneously. I’d be surprised if Leica leapfrogs the S in the MP count, regardless of format. But Leica is full of surprises.

No, no, I heard the S is definitely coming this year. I just didn't bother mentioning it. The person said something about 75 MPx in this respect. The 40 MPx referred to a FF sensor camera to be announced at the Photokina in September.

Perhaps a 40 MP SL?  Or maybe a new 40 MP FF autofocusing small form-factor camera (drool drool...)?

Of course, just third-hand rumors until either Leica announces it, or at the very least, Leica Rumors :)

I read you right the first time. If a FF Leica (assuming SL) is announced at Photokina, then I would expect an S announcement even sooner, or at least at the same time. Obviously it would be 60-80 MP at least.

I surely hope the thread is not closed, as nobody has received their lens yet!  Less than three weeks until vacation, I won't hold my breath as I have other glass that will meet the need nicely.

They are, the message is buy the SL...

I sense that you might be right. Perhaps the enthusiasm has gone cold. I already have the 0.95 Noctilux. My eyes are over 50-years old. I would probably be mostly shooting the 75-Noctilux on the SL. The images from the 2/90 Summicron SL look spectacular. Message received. I cancelled the order on the 75-Noctilux and ordered the 2/90 Summicron SL. I feel good about it. Slightly disappointed. If they could have delivered it in time for my Cuba trip, itvwould have been in the bag. I suppose the bonus is that I saved a lot of money. I’ll put that toward the Asia tour in November.

It's too bad they've lost your order. It does seem somewhat mismanaged to have announced the 75 Noctilux, but then released the SL 75 before the Nocti hits stores.  I seem to recall a delay in getting either the 50 Nocti 0.95 out the door, or maybe it was the 50 APO, because it proved more difficult than expected to produce the internal lenses to their specifications. Let's hope they can get the 75 Nocti out the door in the next few weeks.

It was the 50 APO that was delayed.  I remember ordering it as soon as it hit the Amazon website, then found out they posted it in error.  No harm, no foul, and I was able to get the lens a few months later.  It's traveling with me on vacation in a couple of weeks, that is unless the Noctilux 75 shows up.  Then I will have a decision to make.

Thanks, John. I am very disappointed. I was really looking forward to putting the 75-Nocti to work. In this day and age you simply cannot go to market with a product and not be prepared to deliver. EVEN Leica needs to understand that. I am, however, excited about what I have seen of the 2/90 and suspect the delivery of that product to be eminent. Cheers--lt

Does anyone else think that they wait until they get a set number of orders before they even start putting it into production?

Or is it just me?

If memory serves, they make the smaller batch lenses in a rotation - we’ll do a 50 APOs in October, Noctis in May. I don’t think they waited for orders, but it is clear they say the SL Summicrons as much larger sellers, which is why they announced them and got them in the stores in short order. I am back to believing that the 75 Nocti will be out soon, because by March, we are not really in their “beginning of 2018” promise. But of course, that’s based only on the memory of getting the M240, promised for the beginning of 2013, the last week of February that year. Which is... next week...

I had heard a while back it had begun to ship in very limited quantities. People on flickr are clearly using this lens so it's certainly out there.

There are people who literally buy every lens and every camera including every single Ltd Edition M too, (yes EVERY single one) - These people tend to get this sort of thing first.
