Tobers Posted January 4, 2018 Share #1  Posted January 4, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did another comparison for you all. This time I took my CL and stuck the 18-56 on it, and compared it to the 24 Summilux-M (a lens I love a lot) and the 50 Summilux-M (a lens I also love a lot).  I was mainly comparing them for landscaping purposes, trying to work out if I need to take my M-primes up the mountains of Scotland or if I can just stick with the 18-56 and 55-135. I was pleasantly surprised by the results which you can find here:  Here's a 100% zoom taster for you.  I also did a comparison of the 55-135 against the 50 lux and 90 cron a couple of weeks ago. You can find that here.  And if you're interested, a Leica M10 versus Samsung Note 8 comparison just for fun!
Advertisement Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Hi Tobers, Take a look here CL: 18-56 v 24 lux-M and 50 lux-M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 4, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted January 4, 2018 My Summilux 24 lives in the camera bag next to the 18-56. I do not think that this can be a question of either-or. The lenses are complementary to my mind The 50 Summilux - I am less sure about. In my case it is the basic lens on the M9. I doubt whether its qualities are really useful for a short tele on the CL.
Tobers Posted January 4, 2018 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 4, 2018 Yep - the 24 Summilux is a lovely 35 1.4 on the CL. Gorgeous.
Starwolfy Posted January 4, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted January 4, 2018 Interesting. When I first looked at the pics I took with the 11-23mm on the T, I was just blown away. Having used M lenses for years I was chocked at how sharp the 11-23 is. I am going to Peru in April and I am also thinking about my lens set up. I have been debating about the 18-56mm. I knew it was a very good lens despite the 'just a kit lens' syndrom many people suffer hahaha. In the end I am not sure to take it. I may favor the 11-23 for uwa, the 55-135 for long range and in the middle...I have 3 choices : 16-56 or 23 f2 or 35 f1.4 I know the 23 f2 will be taken by the wife and I am not so sure about the 35 1.4 (that's heavy beast). Not sure it makes sense either to bring all 3 zooms with 11-23 then 18-56 then 55-135... I may finally happen to just bring the 11-23 and the 55-135 and borrow the 23 when needed haha. Choices...decisions... Â One question though : what filters / tripod will you bring for your trip ?
jaapv Posted January 4, 2018 Share #5  Posted January 4, 2018 You could also drop the 11-23 and take the Voigtländer Heliar Hyper-wide 10 mm.
Starwolfy Posted January 4, 2018 Share #6 Â Posted January 4, 2018 I have heard very good things about this lens but I think I could not really justify another uwa lens even though the one you mention is so small and light. I mean...I could justify the purchase to myself but not to my wife ! I am being watched out !
Tobers Posted January 4, 2018 Author Share #7 Â Posted January 4, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just take the 3 zooms. There's a bit of overlap at the wider end, but you should be covered for every eventuality.
jmahto Posted January 4, 2018 Share #8 Â Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) Depends on what you want. Stopped down there are many cheap lenses that will perform same (as in excellent). Just take 40 summicron-C for an example. It is my favorite lens for light travel and is sharp sharp 5.6 down (even f4). Â Going back to 50 lux, it shines wide open. I even like the flare it creates at 1.4 (but not at f2). scott kirkpatrick Posted January 4, 2018 Share #9  Posted January 4, 2018 I think you should take something fast and in the middle range of focal lengths. Have you got a 35 Summicron-M (they are small) or 35 Summilux-M (not as small, but at least smaller than the 24 Elmarit or 28 Summilux)? One reason the CL zooms are so light and so sharp is their small apertures.
