Deliberate1 Posted January 4, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Friends, I have just completed the inaugural unpacking of my new Q silver. It is my fourth Leica - M9, S 006 and a beloved IIIc that I inherited. First impression - and you only get one chance for that - is that people designing the Leica packaging outdid themselves with the Q wrapping. It is a jewel box, and by far the best of the bunch in my Leica quiver. Even if you knew nothing about Leica, its history, products or price point, you would get a good sense of its gestalt simply by the "undressing" ritual. Like a German made matryoshka doll. But to the point, I need advice on the correct Op Tech case model. I went on the site and chose the D-Shortie model based on recommendations. And the camera with lens hood does fit, but quite tightly, especially if snaps on the bottom are engaged. For those of you who use this product, is that the model you use, or, perhaps the next one up, the D-M 4/3 which has a depth of 5" vs. 3.75," giving more tolerance in the lens to back dimension. Obliged, David

Leica Guy Posted January 4, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2018 I’ve come to really like the OP/TECH USA 8001262 Hood Hat - Mini (Black). $6.99 from Amazon. No longer need or use the lens cap. This is just to protect the lens.

No longer need or use the lens cap. This is just to protect the lens. Nice cover and functional given the fact that the provided lens cap cannot be used with the lens hood deployed. If wide enough it could be put into alternative service as a drink koozie. Nice. David

It fits nicely

If wide enough it could be put into alternative service as a drink koozie. Nice. David I’ve not used any kind of lens cap over the past two years believing the hood provides a lot of protection plus I have a UV filter in place. Still, I like this cover. It affords a little more protection for the entire lens. Personal preference. It won’t hold a beer. :-)

Ranchhand Posted January 5, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 5, 2018 David, to answer your original inquiry, I have an Op-tech 7001224 Soft Pouch Rangefinder (Black) which I ordered from Amazon. Of the many pouches which I tried for my Leica Q, this one seems to be the best fit. I also use the hood hat, mentioned above as a lens cap. I think the two of them are the best ones to use. Good luck. Hope this helps with your decision.

Do you remove the hood hat when the camera is in the case? Cheers David
Ranchhand Posted January 5, 2018 Share #10 Posted January 5, 2018 No, I usually leave the hood on the lens whenever the camera is in the neoprene case. I also leave the hood hat in place on the lens hood and lens so it is ready to put the camera around my neck for shooting but have the lens protected. Only takes a second to remove the hood hat, knowing that my lens has been protected. Hope this helps. Louie Bob
Philip G Posted January 6, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) There's also the Zing (standard slr size) neoprene case - which is a good fit on my Q. Philip Edited January 6, 2018 by fineleaf

bherman01545 Posted January 7, 2018 Share #13 Posted January 7, 2018 What you need is a Zing 501-101 SBK1 Neoprene case. They are discontinued or at least in short supply. I picked one up from Adorama and it fits perfectly with the cap and shade. -Brad
