leica1215 Posted January 4, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m using the Arca Swiss p0 with gitzo 1542 set up, I really like the arca fix plate mount design, but want it to know which way is the proper set up ballhead, Should camera plate mounting track parallel to the camera? Or the vertical to camera? Pro and cons? I have been watch couple arca ballhead set up on the YouTube many are suggesting the ballhead clamp on the left hand so you can use right hand to move the camera around find the best angle to shoot, but when watch couple other YouTube the RRS usually have the ball head clamp facing photographer So is this personal preference or there are reasons behind? Advertisement Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Hi leica1215, Take a look here How to Proper set up the ballhead with camera plate?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted January 5, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 5, 2018 I have P0 and Gitzo tripod, but dont understand your question. Can you illustrate with photos? What Quick release plate do you use? I use the RRS one for the SL, with both horizontal and vertical mounts.

leica1215 Posted January 6, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted January 6, 2018 i m using the arca plate on my SL, I have the p0 with arca mono ball fix plate, can only use Arca plate which I like it. As you see from the picture one, it is vertical mount to the camera so the clamp can be on the right or left side of the SL If I mount the plate parallel with the SL then the clamp will be in rear or lens side of the SL Does this make any difference? I often see people with arca mount camera plate like the picture one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sandokan Posted January 6, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 6, 2018 As Donzo said - whichever suits you. I have the P0 Classic Head, which has a screw to tighten the plate to the head. With that, photo 2 is the way I mount if I have another plate other than the RRS (the RRS fits exactly under the SL with no overlap either side). Then the camera is not covering it. For the knob to release the panoramic function, photo 2 also has that in an easier to access position.
ramarren Posted January 6, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 6, 2018 How I mount the plate depends on what I'm trying to do with the camera and lens. I try to orient camera and controls so that they're convenient for the shooting session, not according to a "best practices" guideline.
