I'm considering the purchase of a Leica Q, which will be my first purchase of a Leica product. Considering the stratospheric price tag, I'm naturally concerned about warranty coverage and typical service costs. However, I've been unable to find any warranty details on Leica's website.

Also, I've read that while Leica formerly offered something known as "Passport" which covered accidental damage, that this is no longer offered in the US.

Can anyone provide a link to Leica's warranty details for Q models sold in the US, and perhaps summarize the current state of affairs?

It's 2 years on new equipment in the US and UK. The passport warranty no longer exists. If your equipment fails you will need to call the US service centre who will arrange collection, repair and return. On some occasions your camera may need to be returned to Germany and all arrangements for courier transportation will be taken care of. The only downside is that repairs can take a long time. However, my Q developed a problem with dust on the sensor and fortunately the service centre was able to do the cleaning with a very quick turnaround.

You can do a search on this forum website for previous discussions on "leica repairs" or "leica warranty"

Only secondhand resellers offer a short 6 month warranty but it doesn't affect your rights to the remainder of the manufacturers warranty. Registration of your purchase is available via the leica website.

Good luck.

I’ve shipped multiple lenses to the New Jersey repair center for a check, cleaning or repair. I’ve found them to be extremely professional and quick turnaround. One was shipped by them to Weslar and even then was back to me within 4 weeks. I’m very pleased so far with Leica service.

Thanks for the info. Another question I have is regarding the transferability of the warranty. I've read numerous accounts that the Leica warranty applies only to the original buyer, and only if purchased from an authorized retailer. If I purchased a one year old, pre-owned Q from the original owner, would I not be covered by the remaining year of warranty?
