scott kirkpatrick Posted December 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) pp 45-46 of the manual say that both focus peaking and focus magnification will come on, if you have set them ON, when you have the camera in manual focus and adjust focus, or in AF mode as well, if you turn the focus ring while the shutter is half-pressed. But my experiments only produce focus peaking, not magnification, in the second case, where I am in AF and make small adjustments with the shutter half pressed. In MF mode with an AF lens, it is a bit annoying that the focus magnification and peaking signal stays in place for 5 seconds after you have achieved your objective, but then a half-press does restore normal magnification. It would be nice to be able to set this shorter. With the SL it is very useful to autofocus with a back button while making final adjustments manually, with an AF lens set to MF, This half-press stuff is not as convenient, since on my SL, I reserve the half-press for establishing exposure. scott Edited December 28, 2017 by scott kirkpatrick
Advertisement Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Hi scott kirkpatrick, Take a look here Manual focus with a TL lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted December 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 28, 2017 Mine does the same. At the moment I find manual focus in AF mode too fiddly, so I either use MF (for macro with the 60mm) or AF - I don't combine them. A back-button focus option, together with assigning spot focus recentering to a button, are equal top of my firmware update wishlist.
erudolph Posted December 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 28, 2017 Yes, magnification with MF but not AF. +1 to requesting a back-button focus option.
Guest VVJ Posted December 28, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 28, 2017 Same here. Focus Magnification and Focus Peaking come on when in MF. When in AF nothing happens... This clearly works very differently from the TL2. The lack of consistency in recent Leica cameras is pretty mind boggling IMO...
thighslapper Posted December 29, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2017 The lack of consistency in recent Leica cameras is pretty mind boggling IMO... I'm quite happy that it is a work in progress..... and not a completely static situation ..... You have only to read the comments on the forum to realise Leica will never please everyone.
Starwolfy Posted December 29, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 29, 2017 I think different teams are developing each systems. Each system needs to have its differences but they should be more careful about standardisation between their systems or it will be a mess...especially since Leica owners tend to buy more than just one Leica body
