brill64 Posted December 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday was a lovely cool, blue-sky day & I went out two times, morning & afternoon, street shooting with my M10. When I returned home & came to download my files, I noticed the camera had reset the file numbering starting from zero. There were two folders on the card. One contained 9 files from the middle of my first shoot, ending with L1009999. A suspect number, don't you think? The other contained all remaining files from both shoots numbered from L1000001 to L1009990, just as if it had come from the factory new. The camera was in a half case so I couldn't have accidentally changed settings & I didn't chimp once during the day. It's running the latest firmware. A ghost in the machine, perhaps? A possible bug? It seemed to have a mind of it's own that day. Certainly some personality trait. Any thoughts? Thank you..

Alo Ako Posted December 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 28, 2017 It‘s a feature, not a bug: when the camera saves a file numbered 9999, the software creates a new folder and saves the next shot by 0001. Many other brands do the same in numbering the files.
brill64 Posted December 30, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted December 30, 2017 Thank you, Alo Ako. What if you re-format the card each time you use it & how do I stop files from overwriting each other after conversion because of the same numbering? The M8 didn't reset until it reached 100,000 so this is a bit new to me.

Then it doesn't matter how many files your camera calls '100,000' because you will have identified each one with something like your own sequential number.

pgk Posted December 30, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 30, 2017 Bridge will sort your files by date. And rename them as you require - I use a simple sequential number; unique to each image and oh, so simple!
brill64 Posted January 1, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted January 1, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for your input, guys...I think I'm lazy when it comes to creating additional folders & renumbering processed jpg's. I also don't know how I managed to get to 10,000 files in such a short time. I've had the camera from new. Edited January 1, 2018 by brill64
