RoySmith Posted December 24, 2017 Share #21  Posted December 24, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Very compact also means not very tall, which can make it harder to shoot since the SL screen is non-tilting. As pointed out above, the tripods that fold back on themselves can be hard to pack because the head / knobs get in the way of the legs.  For really compact, the little manfrotto table top tripods are better than nothing and unobtrusive. I use the Markins Q3i ball head with a Gitzo GT1541T tripod. The Markins Q3i has the knobs spaced to fit the folded legs to keep it compact. Itâs rated for 30 Kg and has worked well for me.   Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited December 24, 2017 by RoySmith
Advertisement Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Hi RoySmith, Take a look here What travel tripod setup for SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted December 25, 2017 Share #22  Posted December 25, 2017 +1 for the Gitzo traveller carbon fibre tripod with the P0 head. I tend to take the head off and put it in another bag if it is going in the hold luggage. Or for normal use, I leave the tripod in its normal position (legs not reverse folded) so it is not at its shortest, but the legs are closed.  That Arca-Swiss P0 head is the best and most usable I have come across so far. I also use the RRS BSL arca-swiss L-plate which makes swapping from landscape to portrait very easy and no weight on the side of the tripod to make the head slip or tripod tilt.
jrp Posted December 26, 2017 Share #23 Â Posted December 26, 2017 I also like the P0 head, and have the plain screw version. Unfortunately, although this is a costly item, the top plate is just glued on and can come unstuck.

leica1215 Posted December 26, 2017 Share #25  Posted December 26, 2017 I have looked at it, the cut out of the arca P0 where is 90 degree falls, the lower ring with inside black body attached a bit uneven, is it just the way it is?  the CNC machine shouldn't be uneven that what I thought, or does arca has replica model by 3 party? jrp Posted December 26, 2017 Share #26 Â Posted December 26, 2017 I mean the circular rubber mat on the top of the head; I don't use an attachment for the camera body as I don't use a tripod often enough, and when I do, the Manfrotto Pixi EVO is adequate about half the time. You will never regret it. Can be left on permanently, is unobtrusive and will never come loose, plus it's made exactly to ARCA dimensions. Edited December 31, 2017 by thighslapper
IkarusJohn Posted December 31, 2017 Share #29 Â Posted December 31, 2017 I use an RRS carbon tripod (TQC 14, I think) on Jeffâs recommendaton, with an arca-swiss D4 head and quick release plate. The head is heavy, but really really sturdy. When travelling, I unscrew the head and put it in my bag, tripod straps to the outside. While itâs not the smallest, itâs compact enough and it does the job really well.
