elansprint72 Posted July 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone tell me the best way to photgraph the sort of rain which we have had in the UK for the last few days? I've seen fantastic shots from monsoon areas where the full impact of the weather comes across in the shot. For this image the V-Lux1 was set to auto and has decided upon 1/200th sec, whist you can certainly see the streaks of raindrops it's not quite what I was hoping for. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Hi elansprint72, Take a look here How to photograph rain?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted July 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2007 Does it have any manual settings? (Bodnant is a lovely place with good weather... Did you get to the valley?)
stunsworth Posted July 1, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2007 Slow shutter speeds make the drops look like rods falling down. Maybe that's what you're after? Try 1/30 or slower. One thing about digital is that it makes seeing the results of any experimentation very easy.
azzo Posted July 1, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2007 A contrastier adjustment in PS would help see the rain effect against the grass more, IMHO. Azzo
luigi bertolotti Posted July 1, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 1, 2007 I like a lot this kind of difficult pictures... I tried a little adjustment to have more simmetry and straightness (0,75 degrees CW...) ; what do you think of ? Welcome, dear visitor! andybarton Posted July 2, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) You could also try focussing on the rain, as opposed to the building.
elansprint72 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted July 2, 2007 Thanks for all the advice and suggestions guys, I've found some images of what I was after, I think my basic mistake was shooting into the light (what bit there was of it), shooting with the brightness behind you makes the rain stand out much more. Yes we got to the valley- it was green..... and wet, very wet. Welcome, dear visitor! rob_x2004 Posted July 3, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 3, 2007 Ive often thought you need to get some pretty big drops happening, which I figured meant f/8, f/16 and under an umberella so that the rain is falling close.
