What the article refers to, is the outlining that you get at the very edges of bokehballs, usually with many "traditional" lenses too. Thambar might have that too, of course, but it's only a minor factor. The characteristic donut rings of the Thambar is due to obstruction (hence mechanical vignetting) of the centre part of the lens. This can be easily verified, cause the only other lenses known for donut bokeh are catadioptric (mirror) lenses, which also have an "obstructed" middle part. This, and all my latest that I've posted in various threads recently, were taken in the grounds of the Château Solvay in La Hulpe. I live in Ohain. I have been going to the park and surrounding forest for donkeys years but those steps are in a part where for some reason I had never been. Let me know the next time you are over and we could meet up there. It's worth visiting the Folon museum which is also in the grounds of the Château. ianman Posted July 24, 2021 Share #1115 Posted July 24, 2021 I'm really kicking myself with this one. I should have taken a step to the left to have more seperation between the mermaid and the statue behind. To be fair there was a massive hedge in the way I'll just have to go back when the rain stops.... at 6:30 am to get the same light!!! MP, Thambar, Acros (@4OO) Château Solvay Welcome, dear visitor! I've cycled through the forest to the west - there's obviously plenty more to explore! It's not clear when a visit will be possible - perhaps when there's some agreement about vaccination certificates. But I'll be in touch when we can plan something - it would be good to meet.

As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Anyone done back-to-back testing? I look at this way, yes I’d like to experiment with the Thambar, but it’s a specialty lens and how often would I use it?? Would it be a 7 day wonder, I wonder. Yes I can afford a jar of Vaseline, but spend the kids inheritance on a Thambar and I suspect the Mrs would give me beans on toast laced with Vaseline. 🤪 Great pics everyone!

Yesterday I ran into the issue of needing an ND to shoot landscapes wide open in full sun. Just wondering if anyone has used a 49-46mm step down ring successfully on the Thambar without any vignetting. I've got a B+W I'd like to use if I can. On 1/2/2019 at 1:29 PM, Arrow said: Hm, try it. If it does vignet .... use it to your advantage Just to follow up and add to any future users wondering - a 49-46 step down ring can be used just fine without any additional vignetting (the lens already does pretty heavily on it's own with lower aperture values). Obviously, the value is being able to use a much larger set of filters I already carry for my other 46mm lenses, as well as additional adapter rings to even more sizes. I will note, however, that the ring I found from Sensei brand at B&H is slightly larger than the lens body, not allowing the hood to be attached - a similar issue with other Leica hoods (35mm Lux FLE, I'm looking at you right now), and an issue I found with other 49mm filters. I forget which brand I had originally bought, but read somewhere that Hoya filters would work, so I got rid of the first one and now keep a 2 stop Hoya ND with the lens, for shooting in bright light. Works fine with the hood, as I imagine B+W and Leica brands would also (but can't personally confirm).
