Eshoshani Posted December 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Need everybody's help: The shutter release button on my Q started acting weirded: Clicking on it starts video recording instead of taking a shot - and the only way to stop it is by clicking on the video button. Meaning, I can't shoot photos at all. Did anyone else have such problem? What's the solution for it?? Thanks

falcon468 Posted December 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2017 This happened to me last week too. Easily fixed. You need to go into the menu and find Mode Lock Photo/Video and toggle it to off.
HighlandK Posted December 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 3, 2017 This happened to me last week too. Easily fixed. You need to go into the menu and find Mode Lock Photo/Video and toggle it to off. Well I prefer to have it set to on so that it disables the video button. Then you just have to look at the VF screen and make sure that you haven't cycled through the different screens with the centre button in the multi way switch to the point where a video camera symbol is visible in the top bar. If you do want to shoot video you just need to cycle through to that screen and use the shutter button to start video. Unfortunately from my point of view there appears to be no way to completely disable the video button or even better allocate it to a different function. I totally agree with that and wonder why Leica hasn't done anything about it yet?
jmschuh Posted December 4, 2017 Share #6 Posted December 4, 2017 This happened to me last week too. Easily fixed. You need to go into the menu and find Mode Lock Photo/Video and toggle it to off. Is this really the right solution for you? When you toggle it off, the video button works in every display mode and isn't disabled in the photo display mode. I wouldn't recommend it. Press on the display key (Set key) to leave the video display mode and choose one of the three photo display modes. So you get the right aspect ratio in the display for photography and disable the video function. The function of the Mode Lock Photo/Video depends on the display mode! To change the display mode, press the Display Button and you can toggle the display on the monitor/viewfinder between three different photo display modes and one video display mode: The available display modes are: 1. Display Mode with no indicators on the monitor image (photo mode) -> 2. Display mode with indicators on the lower edge of the monitor image (photo mode) -> 3. Display mode with indicators on the upper and lower edge of the monitor image (photo mode) -> 4. Video Display Mode (video mode) -> 1. ... When you lock the Photo/Video mode ("on"), you can´t take photos if you choose the video mode display (mode 4) and you can´t make a video if you choose one of the three photo display modes (mode 1, 2, 3). With the video mode display (mode 4), the video button and the shutter release button work as video button. With one of the three photo display modes (mode 1,2,3), the video button has no function. When you unlock the Photo/Video mode ("off"), you can take photos and make videos in every display mode (mode 1,2,3,4), photos with the shutter release button and videos with the video button. With Mode Lock Photo/Video activated the shutter button will work for photos in the photo display modes and only work for video in the video display mode. When deactivated the video button can used by mistake in every display mode! I wouldn't recommend to deactivate the lock function until you want frequently make videos. Just leave the lock function activated and avoid the video display mode, which shows the wrong aspect ratio for photography anyway. For Q users who don't want make any videos the lock option is the best way to avoid accidentally pressing the video button. P.S.: Number 31 is the Display / Set - Button for switching the display modes: Welcome, dear visitor! jmschuh Posted December 4, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 4, 2017 Great reply and perfect advice. Thank you. Thank you. I never know if my English is still good enough that anyone understands me. I left school 30 years ago and was never a friend of foreign languages.

If only I could manage anything other than English to anything remotely like that level I would be delighted.
